What is the IGNOU MBA project (MMPP-001)?

The IGNOU MBA project is MMPP-001, an eight-credit project course that students of MBA, MBAFM, MBAHM, MBAMM, MBAOM and MBF must complete for the degree. MMPP-001 is assessed only on the project report you submit, and project work may start only after IGNOU approves your synopsis in writing.

For registration, MMPP-001 counts as one course even though it carries the weight of two, and IGNOU supplies no study material for it. The code on older records is MS-100: the official proforma itself refers to the project course as “earlier MS-100 and revised MMPP-001”. Go by the code on your own registration record when you fill in any form.

This category holds reference project reports and synopsis material for MMPP-001, grouped by specialisation. Open the set that matches your programme:

Does every IGNOU MBA use MMPP-001 as its project code?

No. MMPP-001 belongs to the MBA programmes of the School of Management Studies. Four newer IGNOU MBAs run by other schools carry their own project courses, and the July 2026 Common Prospectus lists each one separately. Most guides online treat every IGNOU MBA as an MMPP-001 case, which sends some students to the wrong synopsis format and the wrong guideline booklet.

The table matters because several MMPP-001 rules are tied to the course itself: the “Proforma for Approval of Project Proposal (MMPP-001)”, the envelope marking, the four routes for guide eligibility and the list of subject areas. The MMPP-001 guidelines name only MBA, MBAFM, MBAHM, MBAMM, MBAOM and MBF students, with MBA (Online) students using the LMS portal. If you are enrolled in MBACN, MBALS, MBAABM or MBAHCHM, follow the project guide issued by your own school. For MBAHCHM, the prospectus adds that the project and internship can be taken up at your own workplace if it meets the stated criteria.

MS-100 sits on the same line as MMPP-001: it is the earlier code of the same MBA project requirement, and it does not belong to the newer programmes above.

When is MMPP-001 registered, and what does the IGNOU MBA project cost?

For MBAFM, MBAHM, MBAMM and MBAOM, MMPP-001 is registered in the third semester. The January 2026 Student Handbook sets the third-semester programme fee at Rs 18,000 against Rs 16,000 for each of the other three semesters, and gives the reason: the third semester carries the eight-credit project.

The July 2026 Common Prospectus prints the same Rs 16,000 and Rs 18,000 pattern for MBF. Two further amounts are easy to confuse, so they are listed together here with the time limits that come with the course.

MMPP-001 has no assignment and no term-end paper. The handbook states that evaluation of the project course is based only on the project report, which is why every requirement for that report deserves attention before any data is collected.

Start with the finish line: IGNOU MBA project report format and length

An MMPP-001 project report runs to about 50 to 60 double-spaced typed pages, not exceeding roughly 18,000 words excluding appendices and exhibits, on A-4 paper in a bound volume. It follows eight parts in a set order and must carry the approved proposal and three other documents bound inside. Planning the synopsis is easier once you know exactly what the finished volume has to hold.

What the finished MMPP-001 report must contain

  1. Introduction to the project and review of literature, with brief details of the organisation or organisations studied, the rationale, statement of the problem, objectives and scope.
  2. Research methodology: research design, nature and source of data, sample and sampling method with rationale, the questionnaire and other tools with their purpose, reliability and validity of those tools, data collection, and the statistical tools used for analysis.
  3. Results and discussion, presented in tables or graphs, with the interpretation of data and findings given in detail.
  4. Summary and conclusion.
  5. Recommendations.
  6. Limitations of the project, and direction for further research (optional).
  7. References and bibliography.
  8. Annexures and appendices, including the questionnaire used.

Around those eight parts, the MMPP-001 report needs a cover page showing your name, enrolment number, the guide’s name and the project title; a detailed table of contents with page numbers; page numbering that matches that table; the approved proposal, approved proforma and guide’s bio-data properly bound in; and a Certificate of Originality signed and dated by you and your guide. The guidelines state plainly that a project with a stapled proposal will not be accepted.

What the MMPP-001 guidelines do not specify

The official document names A-4 size, double spacing and a bound volume. It does not name a font, a font size, margins, a referencing style, a chapter count, a minimum word count or an abstract. Several ranking guides present Times New Roman, 1.5-inch margins or a 12,000 to 15,000 word range as IGNOU rules; none of those appears in the MMPP-001 guidelines. Choose one clear academic style, apply it consistently, and follow any preference your guide or Regional Centre gives you in writing.

Why the IGNOU MBA project report has to be right the first time

Four rules leave little room for repair after submission. The final report must carry the title approved by the evaluator, with no change allowed at submission. A report received without the approved proforma, approved proposal, guide’s bio-data or signed originality certificate is returned to the student for compliance. The submitted copy is not returned after evaluation, so keep your own. And the January 2026 Student Handbook states that there is no provision for re-evaluation of project reports, and that improvement of marks is not permitted for projects. A weak MMPP-001 report cannot be reopened later, so the planning has to happen at the synopsis stage.

IGNOU MBA project submission: last date, address and online upload

The MMPP-001 guidelines set no single last date: the report can be submitted at any time of the year, and the date decides only the result cycle. A report submitted from 1 December to 31 May has its result declared with the June term-end examinations; one submitted from 1 June to 30 November, with the December term-end examinations. A report submitted in September, for example, falls in the December cycle.

Dates that circulate as “31 May” and “30 November” deadlines are these result-window boundaries. Separate last dates do apply to online upload windows, and those are notified by IGNOU for each session.

Posting or delivering the MMPP-001 report

ODL students send one typed, bound copy to the Registrar (SED), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110068, by registered post, speed post or by hand, with “PROJECT REPORT-MMPP-001” written on top of the envelope. A PR number is allotted on submission and is quoted in all later correspondence. MBA (Online) students submit the report through the LMS portal instead.

Online upload windows in recent sessions

In recent term-end cycles, IGNOU has also notified an online portal for final project reports across programmes. The instructions issued with those notices ask for one complete PDF per course, state that reports sent by email are not considered, and warn that incomplete uploads are not evaluated and are removed after the last date. The approved proforma, synopsis, guide’s bio-data and signed originality certificate belong inside that PDF. The portal address and last date change with each session, so work from the notice on the IGNOU website for your own session and keep the upload confirmation.

For the status of a report already submitted, the guidelines direct students to the Assistant Registrar (SED) at [email protected], phone 011-29571324 or 011-29571321, quoting the PR number.

IGNOU MBA synopsis format (MMPP-1): five parts, one proforma, one bio-data

An MMPP-001 synopsis has five required parts: introduction, rationale, objectives, research methodology and limitations. It is sent with the signed Proforma for Approval of Project Proposal (MMPP-001) and the guide’s signed bio-data to the Regional Director of your own Regional Centre, not to the School of Management Studies at headquarters.

The methodology part of the MMPP-001 synopsis must cover the research design, the nature and source of data, the sample and sampling technique with the rationale for the chosen organisation and sample, the tools or questionnaire and how they relate to the objectives, the method of data collection, and the statistical tools to be used along with their relevance to the objectives. The official list contains no abstract, no chapter plan and no timeline, so a synopsis template that adds those is going beyond the guidelines.

Objectives carry the most weight. The guidelines ask for objectives stated clearly, in behavioural terms, and in a neutral manner with no implicit assumption about the findings. The sample objectives in the official document begin with “To study”, “To explore”, “To analyse” and “To investigate”.

What goes on the MMPP-001 proforma

The proforma asks for your enrolment number, study centre, Regional Centre, subject area, name, full postal address and email, the topic, the supervisor’s name and address, whether the supervisor is an IGNOU Management Programme counsellor (and if so, the study centre code and courses counselled), and the number of students the supervisor is currently guiding. Both you and the supervisor sign and date it. The subject area options are HRM and OB, Accounting and Finance, Operations Management and Information System, Marketing, Corporate Management, or Any Other. The office section has two separate decision boxes, one for the synopsis and one for the supervisor, followed by the evaluator’s comments and the Regional Director’s countersignature.

What the guide’s bio-data must show

The bio-data must state the guide’s name and date of birth, full residential and workplace addresses with contact numbers, every degree with specialisation, institution, year of award and percentage of marks, and work experience in chronological order with designation, period and contactable address of each organisation. It must carry the guide’s original signature and a date. It is not required when the guide is an approved IGNOU counsellor. If a signed bio-data or proforma is missing, the synopsis is not entertained.

Send one copy, keep one, and write “MMPP-001” prominently on the envelope. Once the proposal is accepted as complete, the Regional Centre assigns a Project Proposal number, which you quote in all further correspondence. The guidelines also point students to the email IDs of all Regional Centres on the IGNOU website for forwarding a proposal; whether your own Centre accepts a proposal by email for the current session is a question to put to that Centre before you rely on it.

Who can be your IGNOU MBA project guide?

An MMPP-001 guide must fall in one of four groups: management faculty of the School of Management Studies at IGNOU headquarters; approved academic counsellors of the Management Programme with relevant experience; management faculty with five years of postgraduate teaching experience; or professionals with a master’s degree in management or an allied discipline and at least five years of experience in the relevant area.

“Relevant area” is meant literally. The guidelines give the example that a marketing topic needs a supervisor with five years of marketing experience after the master’s degree, advise students to choose guides who are active professionals in the topic’s area, and ask guides to supervise only within their core specialisation. A guide may not supervise more than five students at a time, and the proforma records how many students the guide is currently guiding.

Your guide works with you on the proposal and signs it, while approval of the proposed guide is decided separately by the Faculty. If the guide is not approved, you choose a new guide and submit the proposal afresh with the new guide’s signature, and IGNOU treats it as a new proposal. The same applies if you change guides for any reason of your own.

IGNOU MBA project topics 2026: weak titles and the stronger version of each

A workable MMPP-001 topic sits inside your specialisation and names what you will measure, among whom or in which organisation, and within what limit of place or period. The guidelines ask for a definitive title that conveys the subject matter, and the approved title cannot change later, so it pays to fix the scope before the proforma is signed. The pairs below show broad titles of the kind students often start with, what makes each hard to approve or finish, and a narrower version that could be fielded.

SpecialisationWeak titleWhat stops itStronger version
Finance (MBAFM)A study of financial management in IndiaNo organisation, no period and no measurable function to analyseA study of working capital management at a named listed manufacturer from 2021-22 to 2025-26
Banking and finance (MBF)Digital banking and its benefits“Benefits” presumes the result; the guidelines want neutral objectivesA study of customer use of mobile banking services among account holders of selected branches in one district
Marketing (MBAMM)Consumer behaviour in the FMCG sectorNo product category, buyer group or location, so no sample can be drawnA study of brand preference for packaged breakfast cereals among working adults in one city
Marketing (MBAMM)How social media advertising increases salesAsserts a finding and needs sales data most students cannot obtainA study of consumer response to social media advertisements for smartphones among college students in one city
Human resources (MBAHM)Employee motivation in companiesNo organisation or employee group; a finance or marketing guide could not sign itA study of factors affecting job satisfaction among nursing staff of a named private hospital
Human resources (MBAHM)Proving that training reduces attritionWritten as a conclusion rather than a questionA study of the relationship between training practices and employee retention among frontline staff of one retail chain
Operations (MBAOM)Supply chain management in IndiaToo wide for one student; no unit whose performance can be observedA study of inventory control practices and order fulfilment time at one distribution centre
Operations (MBAOM)Quality management practicesNo setting, no indicator, no boundaryA study of total quality management practices and defect rates at one auto-component plant

Replace the named organisation, period and place with ones you can actually reach. A stronger title is only strong if you can collect its data in the time the rules allow.

Matching the topic to one of the three permitted study types

The MMPP-001 guidelines allow a comprehensive case study of a single organisation or a multifunctional problem within it, an inter-organisational study comparing organisations, validating theory or surveying management practices, or a field study built on empirical data. In the table above, the working capital and quality management titles suit the case study route, a comparison of two banks’ performance would be inter-organisational, and the consumer, customer and employee survey titles are field studies. Decide the type before writing the methodology, because the methodology part of the synopsis has to describe exactly that design.

Quick answers: IGNOU MBA project questions students search

Is MS-100 the same as MMPP-001?

MS-100 is the earlier code of the IGNOU MBA project and MMPP-001 is the revised code; the official proforma refers to “earlier MS-100 and revised MMPP-001”. Use the code that appears on your own registration record, and ask your Regional Centre if your records show both after re-registration or re-admission.

Is the IGNOU MBA project 4 credits or 8 credits?

MMPP-001 carries eight credits. It is equivalent to two courses but treated as one course for registration. Some websites describe it as a four-credit course; the MMPP-001 guidelines and the January 2026 Student Handbook both state eight credits.

Do I need work experience to do the IGNOU MBA project?

The MMPP-001 guidelines set no work experience requirement for the student. The five-year experience condition applies to the guide. A student without a job can still choose a field study or an inter-organisational study that relies on reachable respondents or published data.

Can I write the IGNOU MBA project in Hindi?

The July 2026 Common Prospectus lists English and Hindi as the medium for the MBA and its four SOMS specialisations, and English for MBF. The January 2026 specialisation handbook lists English, and the MMPP-001 guidelines say nothing about the language of the report. Because the documents differ, confirm with your Regional Centre before writing the report in Hindi.

What happens if my MMPP-001 synopsis is not approved?

The evaluator’s comments for reformulating the proposal are sent to you. Resubmit the revised proposal with a fresh proforma, a copy of the rejected proposal and proforma bearing the evaluator’s comments, and the Project Proposal number already allotted by the Regional Centre.

Is a viva compulsory for the IGNOU MBA project?

No. A student may be asked to appear for a viva-voce only if the evaluator recommends it, and the student is informed in that case.

Does an approved synopsis carry over after re-admission?

No. If your four-year maximum duration is over, you must seek re-admission before sending the synopsis. A synopsis approved against the earlier enrolment number must be approved again for the new number; otherwise the project report may not be accepted.

Can I leave the MBA without doing the project?

For the specialisation programmes and MBF, the handbooks provide an exit option after the courses of the first and second semesters (56 credits), on the student’s specific request, leading to the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDIM). The MBA degree itself requires all 28 courses, including MMPP-001.

IGNOU MBA project report sample PDF: choosing and using a reference set

A reference project report shows how a finished MMPP-001 volume is organised: the order of chapters, the wording of objectives, how the methodology is laid out, how tables are interpreted and where the questionnaire sits in the annexures. It is a model of format and structure. The synopsis and report you submit must be your own work, prepared with your own guide and signed by both of you.

The sets in this category are soft copy references organised by specialisation, prepared by the Shri Chakradhar Publication writing team, which has worked with IGNOU distance learners since 2010. If you want to see how a bound volume looks in print, with the approved proposal and certificates in place, the IGNOU MBA project hard copy category covers printed sets from our own press.

How to pick the right MMPP-001 reference

  1. Confirm the course code. Use the table near the top of this page. MMPP-001 references are not the right model for MBACN, MBALS, MBAABM or MBAHCHM projects.
  2. Match the subject area. Choose the set that matches the subject area you will declare on the proforma, since the guide and the evaluator read the work against that area.
  3. Match the study type. A case study reference helps most if your own project is a case study; a survey-based reference helps if yours is a field study.
  4. Read for structure, then write your own. Use the reference to check chapter order, objective phrasing and how tools link to objectives, then draft every section in your own words. You will sign a Certificate of Originality for the whole study.

To order, send your programme code, specialisation, session and whether you need a soft copy or a printed set. If you already have an approved title, share it so the closest reference can be suggested. Soft copies are delivered digitally; printed sets are dispatched.
