IGNOU MCOM Project Hard Copy: What This Category Holds and What IGNOU Expects

This category holds printed and bound MCOP-001 reference sets for IGNOU M.Com learners who want a physical synopsis and project report to work from. IGNOU’s own requirement for the report you submit is different: one typed, original copy on A-4 paper, double spaced, in a bound volume, sent to the Registrar (SED).

The sets are printed on our own press and bound as single volumes, so you can see how a finished MCOP-001 report looks in the hand: where the approved proposal sits, how the pages are numbered, and what a bound-in certificate looks like. They are reference material. Your submitted report has to be your own work on your own approved title, and it is not returned to you after evaluation, so keep a copy.

MCOP-001 is the six credit Semester 4 project of the IGNOU M.Com. You will also see it written MCOP-01 and MCOP 1; all three are the same course.

How This Page Was Checked

Every procedural statement below was checked against IGNOU’s own documents, read in full, not against other IGNOU help sites. Written and reviewed by BK Sahni, Shri Chakradhar Publication Private Limited, which has served IGNOU distance learners since 2010 and runs its own printing press and writing team. Last reviewed: September 2026.

The documents used were the MCOP-001 project guidelines of the School of Management Studies, the M.Com Programme Guide, the IGNOU Common Prospectus July 2026, the Student Evaluation Division’s online project portal instructions and its project fee portal, and the Regional Centre notice on MCOP-001 synopsis submission. Links are in the sources list at the end. Where IGNOU is silent, for example on binding type, this page says so rather than repeating a rule from another programme’s booklet.

Check before you act. Fees, portal dates and some arrangements change between sessions and can differ by Regional Centre. Confirm anything that affects a payment or a date with your own Regional Centre.

Hard Copy Set or Soft Copy Set: Which One Fits You?

Choose the printed set if you are an ODL M.Com learner who will post or hand-deliver a bound report and wants a physical model to check assembly against. Choose the soft copy if you only need to read the structure, or you study M.Com Online (MCOMOL) and will upload rather than post.

  • Printed set is the better fit if you want to compare your own volume page by page before binding, if you work better from paper, or if you are unsure where the approved proposal and certificates physically go.
  • Soft copy is the better fit if you are still at the synopsis stage, if you will use the SED online portal and need to see a finished file rather than a finished book, or if you are an MCOMOL learner. The IGNOU MCOM project guidelines and synopsis format page covers topics, guide eligibility and the synopsis in depth.

Either way, the set is something to learn from. Submitting a copied report conflicts with the Certificate of Originality you sign, and the University deals with plagiarised reports under its own policy.

Before You Print: Why MCOP-001 Reports Get Returned, and the Fix

The MCOP-001 guidelines say a report received without any required document is returned to the student for compliance, and SED’s online portal removes incomplete uploads after the last date. Almost every cause is fixable before printing. The table works backwards from what you would see to what went wrong.

What you seeLikely causeFix before you print or post
Report returned for complianceA required document is missing: approved proforma, approved synopsis, guide bio-data, signed Certificate of Originality or fee receipt copyLay all five out and tick them off before the binder touches the volume
Report not accepted even though the documents were sentThe approved proposal was stapled to the report instead of bound in. The guidelines say a project with a stapled proposal will not be accepted.Bind the proposal, proforma and bio-data into the volume
Report not treated as your approved projectThe cover title differs from the title the evaluator approvedCopy the title word for word from the approval letter, including punctuation
Report not considered for evaluationThe project evaluation fee was not paid with the Term-End Examination formCheck your exam form includes MCOP-001 and the fee before you submit the report
Report may not be accepted after re-admissionApproval is still held on your old enrolment numberSeek approval again on the new enrolment number before printing
Online upload not considered, with no message sentBlurred or dim scans, pages out of sequence, orientation switching between portrait and landscape, or more than one fileScan the signed original into one clear PDF, in order, all pages in one orientation
Report posted but never logged with a PR numberThe report went to your Study Centre, Regional Centre or the School instead of SEDOnly the synopsis goes to your Regional Director. The report goes to the Registrar (SED).
Report sent by email and nothing happensSED states that reports received by email are not consideredUse post, hand delivery or the online portal for the current cycle

Two of these rows cost the most time. A missing document means the whole volume is sent back and re-posted. An unpaid fee cannot be fixed at the report stage at all, because the fee travels with the exam form.

Post, Portal or LMS: Which Route Your MCOP-001 Report Takes

ODL M.Com learners can post or hand-deliver one bound copy to the Registrar (SED), or upload one scanned PDF through SED’s online portal when it is open for their cycle. M.Com Online (MCOMOL) learners submit through the LMS portal. In every route, the signed originals exist on paper first.

RouteWho uses itWhat you sendWhere and how
Post or hand deliveryODL M.Com (programme code MCOM)One typed, original, bound copy with all required documents bound inThe Registrar (SED), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110068, by registered post, speed post or by hand. Mark the top of the envelope PROJECT REPORT-MCOP-001.
SED online portalODL learners, when SED opens the portal for a term-end cycleThe same signed original, scanned into a single PDF for the course, with the fee receiptThe portal notice for that cycle, which carries its own last date. Incomplete uploads are removed after the last date and must be uploaded again the next session.
LMS portalM.Com Online (MCOMOL)The report as instructed on the LMSThe IGNOU Online LMS. MCOMOL learners also submit the synopsis there.

The synopsis follows a different path and happens earlier. It goes to the Regional Director of your own Regional Centre, envelope marked MCOP-001, by hand, registered post or courier. IGNOU Regional Centres have published notices on decentralised submission and evaluation of the MCOP-001 synopsis, which is why the Regional Centre, not headquarters, handles it.

Note the one difference in wording: the guidelines list courier for the synopsis, but for the report they name registered post, speed post or hand delivery. Using one of those three for the report gives you a tracking or receipt record. Also include your guide’s Annexure-III remuneration bill in a separate envelope with the report; more on that below.

Whichever route you use, the report can go in at any time of year within your maximum programme duration. Reports reaching SED from 1 December to 31 May are declared with the June term-end results, and from 1 June to 30 November with the December results.

Frequently Asked Questions About the MCOP-001 Hard Copy

Can I hand-deliver my MCOM project report at Maidan Garhi?

Yes. The guidelines allow the report to reach the Registrar (SED), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110068 by hand, as well as by registered or speed post. Ask for an acknowledgement at the counter and keep it with your retained copy.

Can I submit the report at my Study Centre or Regional Centre?

Not under the MCOP-001 guidelines. Only the synopsis goes to your Regional Director. The bound report is addressed to the Registrar (SED) at headquarters, or uploaded through the SED portal for the cycle, or through the LMS for MCOMOL.

How many printed copies of the report does IGNOU need?

One. The guidelines ask for one copy to be sent and one to be retained by you. Advice to send two copies comes from other programmes or other sites, not from the MCOP-001 guidelines.

Does the synopsis have to be bound too?

The guidelines ask for the synopsis, the signed Annexure-I proforma and the guide’s signed bio-data to be sent together to the Regional Director, and they name no binding style for that packet. The binding rule that matters is at the report stage, where the approved proposal must be bound into the report, not stapled.

Is a printed set from this category accepted as my submission?

No. It is reference material. Your MCOP-001 report must be your own work on your own approved title, and the Certificate of Originality you and your guide sign states that it is original.

I study M.Com Online. Do I need a hard copy at all?

You do not post a bound volume; MCOMOL learners submit through the LMS. A printed set can still help you check front matter and page order before scanning, but the soft copy category is usually the more practical choice for you.

Two Payments Around the Report: Your Rs 500 Fee and Your Guide’s Rs 300 Bill

The MCOP-001 project evaluation fee is Rs 500, because IGNOU charges Rs 500 per course for project work above 4 credits and MCOP-001 carries six. According to the July 2026 Common Prospectus, it is paid with the Term-End Examination form, and a copy of the receipt goes into the bound report or the upload.

This fee applies from the January 2023 admission cycle onwards, under an SED notification dated 7 March 2023. SED has also run a separate online portal for project evaluation and practical fees, with instructions covering June 2024 onwards, while the July 2026 prospectus places the payment with the exam form. Follow the arrangement notified for your session. SED’s portal instructions state that a report is not considered if the fee was not paid with the exam form, and that the fee is neither adjusted nor refunded once paid. Keep the original receipt and bind in a copy.

The second amount is not yours to pay. Annexure-III of the guidelines is the remuneration bill your guide uses to claim Rs 300 per student for guiding the project. It is filled in by the guide and sent with your report, in a separate envelope. Learners often confuse the two figures; they are unrelated.

What the MCOP-001 Front Page Must Show, on Paper and in the PDF

The MCOP-001 guidelines list exactly what the cover page must carry, and SED’s online portal separately lists what the first page of an uploaded PDF must carry. They overlap, but they are not the same list. If you might use both routes, put every item from both columns on your cover.

Bound report cover page (MCOP-001 guidelines)First page of the uploaded PDF (SED portal)
Course code and title, written as MCOP-001: ProjectCourse code of the attached project
Title of the project or dissertationTitle of the project report or dissertation
Name and enrolment number of the studentName, and enrolment number as shown on the ID card, not the control or registration number
Name of the guideProgramme code (MCOM) and Regional Centre code
Name of the School and name of the UniversityMobile number and email ID

No layout, logo, colour or font is prescribed for the cover. Front page templates circulating online are designs, not IGNOU forms. The form IGNOU does prescribe is Annexure-I, the Proforma for Approval of Project Proposal, which is the front sheet of your synopsis packet and is later bound into the report after approval.

Typed, A-4, Double Spaced, Bound: The Physical Specification

The MCOP-001 guidelines ask for one typed copy of the report, submitted in original, on A-4 paper, typed in double space, in a bound volume, of about 60 to 80 double spaced pages with rational variation permitted. A handwritten or photocopied report does not meet that description.

  • Binding type is not named. Spiral, soft or hard binding can all produce a bound volume. What the guidelines insist on is that the approved proposal, proforma and bio-data are bound in. If your guide or Regional Centre asks for a specific binding in writing, follow it.
  • Numbering is. The report needs a detailed table of contents with page numbers, and every page must be numbered as the table of contents shows.
  • Referencing is named. The guidelines ask for references in APA style.
  • Not specified: font, font size, margins, colour or single-sided printing, and no word count. Treat any figure for these as your guide’s preference, not an IGNOU rule.

The order of the front matter inside the binding is set by your guide’s advice and common sense rather than a numbered IGNOU sequence; the guidelines list what must be inside, not the page order. Our printed sets follow one consistent, workable order you can compare against.

Can the MCOP-001 Report Be Handwritten?

No. The MCOP-001 guidelines ask for one typed copy of the project report, so a handwritten dissertation does not meet the requirement. The handwritten rule that applies to IGNOU tutor marked assignments does not carry over to the project report.

Signatures are the exception, and they must be real. The guide’s bio-data must be signed in original, and the proforma and Certificate of Originality carry handwritten signatures and dates from you and your guide. For the online portal, SED asks for the proforma approved in original and the certificate signed by both of you, scanned with the rest of the report.

Once the report is posted, a PR number is allotted. Quote it in any query to the Registrar (SED) at [email protected]. For a project built around your own topic and data rather than a reference set, see our customised project service on a separate site.
