The IGNOU MBAFM project is MMPP-001, an eight credit Project Course placed in Semester 3 of MBA (Financial Management), and the final report has to reach IGNOU as one bound A-4 volume typed in double space. That single sentence decides everything on this page. A finance project is not judged as a file. It is judged as a physical document that an evaluator holds, opens and marks. This category stocks printed MMPP-001 reference sets written on finance topics, and the guidance below is about the part almost nobody covers: what happens to a finance report once it stops being a Word file and becomes a bound volume.

If you are still choosing a topic, testing whether your data is reachable, or working out which MMPF course your study should sit against, that groundwork lives on the soft copy page. This page picks up afterwards.

Jump to the printed set you need

All five MBA specialisations have their own printed category. Pick the one matching your programme code, since a Finance set and a Marketing set are not interchangeable and the Subject Area written on your proforma has to match the work.

The MBAFM printed set at a glance

Every figure below is taken from the official MBAFM programme listing and the MMPP-001 Project Course guidelines published by IGNOU. Nothing here is inferred from other coaching sites, several of which still describe MMPP-001 using the retired MS-100 code.

MBAOL students, meaning MBA (Online) rather than the ODL route, submit both the synopsis and the report through the LMS portal instead. If your enrolment says MBAOL, a printed set is reference reading only and nothing on this page about posting applies to you.

Two different ways an MBAFM report fails

Students treat rejection as one thing. It is two, and they happen in different rooms. The first is a desk return, where the report never reaches an evaluator because a required document is missing from the binding. The second is a poor evaluation, where the report is read and simply does not earn marks. The MMPP-001 guidelines are explicit that a report arriving without the approved proposal, the approved proforma, the guide bio-data or a signed Certificate of Originality will be returned to the student for compliance.

The distinction matters for finance students specifically. A desk return costs you a whole result cycle over a stapled page. A weak evaluation usually comes from something else entirely: ratio tables printed with no interpretation attached to them. The rest of this page addresses the second problem, because the first is covered in full on the MMPP-001 hard copy category, where the four bound documents are listed item by item.

Where each finance exhibit belongs in the bound volume

An MBAFM report carries more tables than any other specialisation. Balance sheet extracts, ratio computations, common size statements, discounting workings and regression output all compete for space in a volume capped at roughly 18,000 words. The guidelines resolve this cleanly, and almost nobody reads the clause: the word ceiling excludes appendices and exhibits. Placement is therefore a decision you control, and it is the single most useful thing to get right before you send anything for binding.

Finance exhibitBody or annexureWhy, and what to watch when it prints
Summary ratio table, five years, key ratios onlyBody, Results and DiscussionThis is a result, so it belongs where results are presented. Keep it to one page. A ratio table split across a page break is hard to read once bound
Full ratio computation showing numerator and denominatorAnnexureWorking, not finding. Moving it out protects the word count and keeps the discussion readable
Audited balance sheet and profit and loss extractsAnnexureSource material. Note the financial year and the annual report it came from beneath each extract, so the evaluator can trace it
Common size or trend statementBody if discussed, annexure if notA table nobody interprets earns nothing in the body. If you are not going to write about it, move it back
NPV, IRR or payback workingsAnnexure, with the result summarised in the bodyLong discounting schedules run wide. Set them landscape rather than shrinking the type below readable size
Correlation or regression output from Excel or SPSSBody for the coefficient table, annexure for the raw outputPasted software screenshots print grey and illegible. Retype the numbers into a proper table
Charts, meaning trend lines and bar comparisonsBodyResults may be presented graphically. Check they survive greyscale printing, since colour coded series become indistinguishable
Questionnaire, where the study collected primary dataAnnexureThe guidelines name the questionnaire specifically as annexure content
Approved proposal, proforma, guide bio-data, originality certificateBound into the volumeBound, not stapled. A stapled proposal is grounds for the report to be returned

Treat the right hand column as practical publishing advice rather than University rule. IGNOU prescribes A-4, double spacing and a bound volume. It does not prescribe font, margin, landscape orientation or how you handle greyscale. Those choices are yours, and they are the difference between a report that reads well in the hand and one that does not.

Ask which printed finance set matches your topic

The 18,000 word ceiling, read correctly

The MMPP-001 guidelines put the report at about 50 to 60 double spaced typed pages, not exceeding approximately 18,000 words, and add that rational variation on either side is permissible. Two words in that sentence do most of the work. “Approximately” means this is a guide, not a counter that trips at 18,001. “Excluding appendices and exhibits” means your annexures sit outside the count entirely.

Finance students routinely misread this in the expensive direction. They pad the body with computation tables to reach a page count, then discover the discussion is thin. The better shape for an MBAFM report is a lean body carrying findings and interpretation, with the arithmetic parked behind it. A fifty page body that argues something, followed by thirty pages of annexures, is a stronger submission than an eighty page volume that is mostly spreadsheets.

What “interpretation given elaborately” actually asks for

The guidelines say results should be presented in tabular or graphical format and that interpretation of the data and findings may be given elaborately. Finance reports lose marks here more than anywhere else, because a ratio table looks like analysis and is not. A number is a result. Interpretation is the sentence explaining what caused it and what it means for the firm. Below are four pairs, each showing the weak version students submit and the version that answers the requirement.

Pair one, a liquidity finding

Weak: “The current ratio of the company was 1.8 in 2021-22, 1.6 in 2022-23 and 1.4 in 2023-24. It shows a decreasing trend.”

Stronger: “The current ratio fell from 1.8 to 1.4 across the three years. The decline is driven by current liabilities growing faster than current assets, with trade payables rising while inventory stayed broadly flat. The company remains above the conventional benchmark of 1.0, so short term obligations are still covered, but the direction suggests working capital is being financed increasingly through supplier credit rather than internal accruals.”

Pair two, a profitability finding

Weak: “Net profit margin decreased from 8.2 per cent to 5.9 per cent, which is not good for the company.”

Stronger: “Net profit margin fell by 2.3 percentage points. Gross margin over the same period was almost unchanged, which points away from pricing or input cost pressure and towards a rise in fixed costs below the gross line. Finance cost as a share of revenue rose in the same period, consistent with the increase in borrowings noted earlier.”

Pair three, a capital structure finding

Weak: “The debt equity ratio is 1.2 which means the company uses more debt than equity.”

Stronger: “At 1.2, the company carries Rs 1.20 of debt for every rupee of shareholder funds. Compared with the two peer firms in this study, both below 0.9, the company is more heavily geared. This raises the fixed charge it must service before any return reaches equity holders, and explains the wider swing in its return on equity across the three years.”

Pair four, a statistical finding

Weak: “The correlation between sales and profit is 0.87, which shows a strong positive correlation.”

Stronger: “Sales and profit move together closely across the period studied, with a correlation coefficient of 0.87. The association is strong but does not establish direction, and with only twelve observations the estimate is sensitive to the two years in which the company recorded exceptional items. This is noted among the limitations of the study.”

Each stronger version does three things the weak version does not: it says what caused the number, it compares it against something, and it stops short of claiming more than the data supports. That last habit also protects the neutrality of your objectives, which the guidelines require to be stated without assuming the findings.

What a printed MBAFM reference set contains

Each product in this category is a bound reference volume built around a finance topic, supplied as a printed MMPP-001 project report together with the matching synopsis. Ordering one lets you see how a finished MBAFM submission is put together: how the methodology chapter reads when the data is secondary, how a results chapter interleaves tables with discussion, where the annexures start, and what the front matter looks like. Products are dispatched to your postal address, and each product page carries its own topic, page count and price.

These are published reference materials from Shri Chakradhar Publication Private Limited. They are not IGNOU publications and carry no University approval.

Using a readymade set without putting your own submission at risk

This needs saying plainly, because the category exists commercially and honesty here serves you better than a promise. A printed reference report is a model, not a submission. IGNOU requires the synopsis to be original work by the student, requires the final report to be free from plagiarism, and requires a Certificate of Originality signed by both you and your guide. Submitting a purchased report as your own is a straightforward breach of that certificate, and the University acts on plagiarism under its own policy.

What a printed set is genuinely good for: seeing the structure and chapter proportions of a completed finance report, understanding how interpretation is written around tables, checking where annexures begin, and judging the depth expected at eight credits. What it cannot do is carry your enrolment number, your approved title or your organisation’s data. Your title is locked to whatever the evaluator approved, and the report has to match it.

Where the MBAFM report physically goes

One typed copy of the MMPP-001 project report goes to The Registrar (SED), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110068, by registered post, speed post or by hand, in a bound A-4 volume typed in double space. Write PROJECT REPORT-MMPP-001 on the top of the envelope, which is how the Student Evaluation Division sorts incoming reports by programme. A PR number is allotted once it is received, and that number is what you quote in any later correspondence about your report.

Note the split that catches people out. The synopsis and the report do not go to the same place. The synopsis goes to the Regional Director of your own Regional Centre. Only the finished report goes to Maidan Garhi. Sending the synopsis to headquarters is one of the most common misdirections in this programme, and several third party sites still print it that way.

Two different Rs 500 figures

The MMPP-001 guidelines mention Rs 500 twice and they are unrelated amounts. The first is the project fee: University policy from the January 2023 admission cycle onwards sets exam, practical and project fees at Rs 500 per course. The second is the token honorarium of Rs 500 that IGNOU pays your project guide for supervising you. One is money you may pay. The other is money the University pays someone else. Neither is a payment you make to your guide. Fee arrangements do change by session, so confirm the current position with your Regional Centre before paying anything.

When your result appears

The MMPP-001 report can be submitted at any time during the year. A report submitted between 1 December and 31 May has its result declared with the June term end examinations, and one submitted between 1 June and 30 November with the December term end examinations. These are result windows rather than deadlines, a distinction the MMPP-001 hard copy page sets out in full. A viva-voce happens only if the evaluator recommends one, and you are told if so.

MBAFM project hard copy questions

Does the MMPP-001 report have to be hard bound or is spiral binding acceptable?

The MMPP-001 guidelines require a bound volume and do not specify a binding type. Hard binding, soft binding and spiral binding are all bound. What the guidelines do specify is that the approved proposal, proforma and guide bio-data must be bound into the report and not stapled, and a report with a stapled proposal is not accepted. Choose whichever binding holds those pages permanently inside the volume.

Can I print my MBAFM project double sided to save pages?

The guidelines specify A-4 size and double spacing and say nothing about single or double sided printing. Single sided is the safer default because it is what the 50 to 60 page guidance implicitly describes, and because tables read better without print showing through from the reverse. This is a practical preference, not a University requirement.

Do my annexure pages count towards the 18,000 words?

No. The MMPP-001 guidelines state the length as about 50 to 60 double spaced typed pages not exceeding approximately 18,000 words, excluding appendices and exhibits. Your ratio workings, financial statement extracts and questionnaire therefore sit outside the count. This is why placing computation in annexures rather than the body is the sensible choice for a finance project.

Will IGNOU send my bound report back after evaluating it?

No. The guidelines state plainly that the project report submitted to the University will not be returned after evaluation. Print and keep a second bound copy for yourself before you post. Students who skip this have nothing to show at a viva-voce and nothing to work from if a query arises later.

Should the MBAFM Subject Area on the proforma say Finance or Accounting and Finance?

The proforma lists Accounting and Finance among its subject areas, while the worked example inside the guidelines uses a study titled Financial Performance of XYZ Ltd and gives its Subject Area as Finance. Either is defensible for an MBAFM topic. The MBAFM project guidance page covers how to fill this field alongside the rest of the proforma.

Can I submit my MMPP-001 project report online instead of posting it?

Under the MMPP-001 guidelines, ODL students of MBAFM post or hand deliver one bound copy to the Registrar (SED). The LMS portal route is specified for MBAOL, the online MBA, not for ODL learners. If you have seen an online submission window announced for a particular session, treat it as a session specific arrangement and confirm it with your Regional Centre before relying on it.

Does the printed set include the synopsis as well as the report?

Yes. Each MBAFM hard copy product in this category supplies the printed project report together with the matching synopsis, so you can see how a proposal and the finished report line up. Check the individual product page for the topic, page count and price of the set you are looking at.

My topic changed after approval. Can I print the new title on the cover?

No. The MMPP-001 guidelines are explicit that the final project report must be on the title approved by the evaluator and that no changes can be made when submitting it. If your work has genuinely moved away from the approved title, resolve that with your Regional Centre before you send the volume for binding, not afterwards.

How many pages should the finance chapters run to?

IGNOU sets a total of about 50 to 60 double spaced pages for the report and does not allocate pages by chapter. As a working split for an MBAFM study, results and discussion is usually the longest chapter because it carries the interpretation, with methodology and introduction shorter. Treat any per chapter page count you see quoted elsewhere as someone’s convention rather than a rule.

Who do I contact about the status of a submitted MBAFM report?

Report status queries go to the Assistant Registrar (SED), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110068, by email at [email protected] or on 011-29571324 and 011-29571321. Quote your PR number. Anything about approval of the proposal goes to your own Regional Director instead, not to headquarters.
