In short. MSCAST is the 80-credit M.Sc. (Applied Statistics) run by IGNOU’s School of Sciences across four semesters, and of its twenty-two taught codes only eighteen carry a Tutor Marked Assignment: the sixteen MST theory papers running MST-011 to MST-026, plus MSTE-011 Operations Research and MSTE-012 Stochastic Processes if you take the elective pair instead of MSTP-011 Project/Dissertation. Inside a Finished MST Packet
What reaches the address you give is a physical bundle assembled per course code, not a download link and not a file you have to take to a print shop. For each MST or MSTE code ordered, four things travel together.
- The answer sheets. Every question on that code’s paper written out by hand on A4, in the order the paper prints them, with the question number marked against each answer. The MSCAST instruction sheet says it is not compulsory to rewrite the question before answering it, so the pages stay dense with working rather than padded with restated prompts.
- The IGNOU-format front page. Filled with your name, enrolment number, admission cycle, programme code MSCAST, course code, course title, regional centre code, study centre code, address, contact number and email, because those are the fields the MSCAST cover page actually prints. It is included free with every order.
- A copy of the official question paper. The booklet asks for the assignment question sheet of that course to sit behind the cover page of the response sheets, which is a step a downloaded answer file cannot do for you, so the printed sheet travels with the set.
- Pages fastened and numbered per code. Multiple pages are secured together and numbered separately for each assignment, the way the instruction block asks.
Nothing in that bundle arrives as a file.
Where the ₹320 Stops, and Where It Does Not
The ₹320 is a per-subject figure and the courier is already inside it. Reading it as a bundle price for a semester is the common mistake: MSCAST semesters are uneven, so a first-semester learner with five theory codes and a fourth-semester learner carrying MST-024, MST-025, MST-026 and both MSTE electives are looking at different totals from the same per-subject rate.
Inside the ₹320: the handwriting, the A4 sheets, the IGNOU-format front page, the printed question sheet, the fastening and numbering, and the courier to your pin code. Outside it: nothing is added. There is no separate packing line, no per-page charge for a code that runs long, and no premium for a backlog paper from an older validity year. There is no minimum order: one subject or fourteen, same rate.
What ₹320 does not buy is an outcome. No claim is made about the marks any assignment will receive, about how an evaluator will assess it, or about whether it will be accepted. Reference File or Submission Bundle: Reading the Difference
These two things get searched for with the same words and are not the same purchase, so it is worth defining both once. A solved assignment is a soft-copy reference file of model answers for one course code and one session, downloaded and read. A handwritten assignment is the answers written out by hand on A4 and submitted in hard copy at the study centre allotted to you. One is study material. The other is the thing you hand in.
On MSCAST the distinction is unusually sharp, because the instruction block on the MST and MSTE papers is explicit about the format. It states that it is mandatory to write assignments in your own handwriting and that Typed or printed copies of the assignments will not be accepted.
The one carve-out is narrow and named: a printout may be used only where a question specifically asks for the output of a program, and the paper names MST-015 and MST-024 as the two codes where that can arise. For every other MSCAST code, a printed page is not a submission.

Course codes, official titles and credits below are read off the Common Prospectus July 2026 entry for M.Sc. (Applied Statistics), section 3.55, School of Sciences. The prospectus prints these codes with a space and no hyphen, while the live assignment files on ignou.ac.in print them hyphenated. Both refer to the same course. Every one of these sixteen carries a Tutor Marked Assignment.

Those sixteen carry 54 credits between them, which is the figure the prospectus states for the core compulsory theory block, and summing the column confirms it. The spread of credit weight matters when you are budgeting: MST-011, MST-015, MST-019, MST-024 and MST-025 are 2-credit courses and the other eleven are 4-credit courses, but the assignment on each is a 100-mark paper regardless. A 2-credit code does not get a shorter assignment.
The MSTE Electives, MSTP-011 and the Five Labs That Carry None
The fourth semester is where MSCAST branches, and it is the part most commonly misread. The prospectus marks three codes with an asterisk and then explains it: a candidate may take the two theory courses Operations Research and Stochastic Processes together, or the Project/Dissertation, not both. Each route is worth 8 credits. Which route you took decides whether you owe two more assignments or none.

The lab exclusion is not an inference. Every MSCAST assignment file opens with the same line naming MSTL-011, MSTL-012, MSTL-013, MSTL-014 and MSTL-015 and stating that there are no assignments for the lab courses in this programme. Those five carry 18 credits, so a full fifth of the degree is assessed without a Tutor Marked Assignment anywhere in it. Nobody should be quoted ₹320 for an MSTL code, and nobody is quoted one here.
That gives a hard ceiling on what a MSCAST learner can ever order: eighteen codes across the whole degree if you take the elective pair, sixteen if you take MSTP-011 instead. Anyone offering you twenty-two is selling you papers IGNOU did not set.
Six Places IGNOU’s MSCAST Records Disagree, and One of Ours
These came out of reading the Common Prospectus against the live assignment files on ignou.ac.in. None of them is a reason to worry. All of them are reasons to read your own admission record rather than trust a code list copied off any website, including this one.
Disagreements found between IGNOU’s own documents, and two that sit on this store.
1. Code spelling. The Common Prospectus July 2026 prints the MSCAST codes with a space and no hyphen, as MST 011, MSTL 011, MSTE 011 and MSTP 011. Every live assignment file, every cover page and the previous-year question-paper archive print them hyphenated, as MST-011 and MSTE-011. Ordering by either form reaches the same course.
2. Two file-naming conventions in one directory. The School of Sciences assignment folder serves some MSCAST papers as MSCAST-MST-020.pdf and MSCAST-MST-016.pdf, with the programme first, and others as MST-013_MSCAST.pdf, MSTE-011_MSCAST.pdf and MSTE-012_MSCAST.pdf, with the code first. Both patterns were live when this page was checked, which is why a link that works for one code can fail for the next.
3. Two assignment-code years live at once. The MST-020 paper currently served prints its assignment code as MST-020/TMA/2025. The MST-013 and MSTE-012 papers in the same folder print /TMA/2026. Check the code printed on the paper you downloaded rather than assuming the year from another course.
4. The credit column does not add to 80 on a first pass. Summed straight down, the four semester blocks in the prospectus table come to 88. The printed total of 80 only reconciles once the asterisk rule is applied and the 8 credits of MSTE-011 plus MSTE-012 are counted as an alternative to the 8 credits of MSTP-011, never as an addition. A reader who sums the table without reading the footnote will conclude the prospectus is wrong. It is not.
5. The exit award appears exactly once. The MSCAST entry names PG Diploma in Statistics and Applications, PGDSA, as the award after two successful semesters. That code appears nowhere else in the Common Prospectus July 2026: no programme entry, no course table, no fee row. A separately named Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Statistics, PGDAST, from the same School of Sciences does have all three, and uses MST-001 to MST-005. The two diplomas are not the same thing and their course codes do not overlap.
6. The MST prefix is shared across three levels. MSCAST uses MST-011 upward. PGDAST uses MST-001 to MST-005 with MSTL-001 and MSTE-001 to MSTE-004. And MSTE 001 and MSTE 002, Industrial Statistics I and II, appear as compulsory theory courses inside a bachelor’s energy programme in the same prospectus. A search for MST assignments returns all three, so match the number range, not just the prefix.
7. In-house, and being corrected. This store files its MSCAST guess-paper shelf underneath a parent category named for MA master-degree guess papers, which puts an M.Sc. programme on an MA shelf. Older product pages on this store also still show ₹300 and ₹350 alongside the ₹320 rate stated here, and quote fixed delivery windows this page does not repeat. Those pages are queued for correction. Where they disagree with this page, this page is the current position.
Why Your MST Paper Prints No Cut-Off Date
Learners arrive at this page looking for the MSCAST last date and find that the honest answer is that the paper does not carry one. Both MSCAST assignment files read for this page, MST-020 and MSTE-012, print the same instruction: the set must be submitted at the study centre allotted to you before the due date set by the University, and you should check the IGNOU website for updated information on that date. There is no 31 October, no 30 April, no 31 March printed anywhere on the sheet.
That is a real difference from other schools, not an omission. School of Management Studies papers print two fixed calendar dates on the booklet. School of Humanities papers print a two-year validity span. The School of Sciences MSCAST papers print neither, and instead print a validity window on the cover, such as January 2026 to December 2026 on the MSTE-012 file.
What the MSCAST booklet does print, on its cover, is the operative rule: assignments are to be submitted before the Term-End Examination form is filled. That is the deadline that actually binds you. The instruction block reinforces it twice, stating that you will not be allowed to appear for the term-end examination for a course whose assignment you have not submitted, and that if you do sit the examination without having submitted, the result of that examination is liable to be cancelled or withheld.
Aggregator pages circulate 31 March and 30 September as general IGNOU dates, and an IGNOU Regional Centre page does state those as the general position across programmes. Neither is printed on your MST paper. Check the position for your own enrolment against ignou.ac.in and your Regional Centre rather than against an aggregator page. The practical rule for MSCAST is simpler than a date: the assignment goes in before the examination form does.
Assignments carry 30 per cent of the final course result and the term-end examination carries the remaining 70 per cent. On MSCAST the assignment is also the gate to the other 70, which is why a skipped MST code costs more than the thirty marks it looks like it costs.
What MST-020/TMA/2025 Is Telling You
The line printed above the name field on every MSCAST paper is the assignment code, and it identifies the exact paper your set answers. Read left to right, MST-020/TMA/2025 gives the course code, the paper type, and the year the file is valid for.
Three things follow from that. First, the year is a single calendar year, not a session name and not a two-year span, so an MSCAST assignment code never reads JULY or JAN the way a management paper does. Second, papers expire and are replaced: a set written against MST-020/TMA/2025 answers that year’s questions, and a learner submitting in a later cycle needs the paper reissued for that cycle. Third, because two years are currently live in the same folder, the code on your downloaded file is the only reliable statement of which paper you are holding.
Send the assignment code along with the course code when you order. It removes the single most common cause of a wrong set: the right course, the wrong year’s questions.
Matching the Hand That Wrote Your Sample
An evaluator at your study centre sees the same enrolment number across several codes in a semester. A set that arrives in an obviously different hand from the rest of your file invites a question you do not want to answer. Send a photo of a page you have written yourself and the handwritten set is matched to your handwriting at no extra charge.
What the sample photo needs to show
One clearly lit page of your own ordinary writing is enough, and it does not have to be statistics. What is being read off it is letter slant, size, spacing, how you close loops, and how you form digits, because a statistics paper is dense with numerals, subscripts and Greek letters and those have to look like yours. A page with a few equations on it helps for that reason. The sample is requested and confirmed before payment, so you see the writer’s hand against your own before any money moves.
Where a question needs a matrix, a factorial-design block, a transition probability matrix or an incidence matrix laid out, it is ruled and set out as a table rather than sketched freehand, because a smudged matrix is a lost mark whoever wrote it.
English-Only Medium, Any Semester, Any Backlog
The Common Prospectus states the medium of instruction for MSCAST as English, and the assignment files are issued in English only. That is a genuine restriction rather than a stock choice, and it is worth knowing before you order: unlike a humanities programme with parallel Hindi papers, there is no Hindi MST paper to ask for. Session coverage is wider than the current cycle. Any session is accepted, current cycle or older, including backlog courses, at the same ₹320 per subject. A learner sitting on an unsubmitted MST-014 from an earlier validity year, or picking up MSTE-011 after switching off the project route, is ordering the same product at the same rate as a first-semester learner ordering MST-012.
Because MSCAST runs semester-wise rather than year-wise, learners often hold an uneven mix: two current codes and one backlog, or a third-semester block plus a first-semester paper never submitted. There is no minimum order: one subject or fourteen, same rate. Mixed cycles in one order are normal and are priced the same way.
Five Things to Send Before Anything Is Written
Everything needed to start fits in one WhatsApp message. Sending more than this slows the quote down rather than speeding it up.
- Your enrolment number and programme code. MSCAST, as printed on the cover page field.
- The course codes. MST-011 through MST-026, MSTE-011 or MSTE-012, listed exactly as they appear on your admission record.
- The assignment code from each paper. The /TMA/ line, because two years are currently live and it settles which paper is being answered.
- Your regional centre and study centre codes. These go on the front page and are easier to fill correctly at the start than to correct later.
- A photo of your handwriting. One page, well lit, ordinary writing.
What is not needed: your study material, a scanned copy of the question paper if you have given the code, or payment. The quote comes back first at ₹320 per code, and the handwriting sample is confirmed before anything is paid.

Once the Courier Hands Over the Bundle
The packet is yours to check before it becomes yours to submit, and there are three things worth doing in the first ten minutes.
Check the pairing first. Each set should carry the right cover page, the right course code and title, and the matching question sheet behind it. On a multi-code order that is the one error worth catching early, and it takes a minute per code.
Then read it. Your signature goes on that cover-page declaration, which is exactly why the notice at the foot of this page asks you to review the content first. On a statistics paper that is not a formality: if a derivation in MST-021 or a queueing model in MSTE-012 is going to be examined at 70 per cent weight in June or December, reading the working through once is the cheapest revision hour available to you.
Then submit it at the study centre allotted to you and keep proof. The MSCAST instruction block asks you to keep a copy of the answer sheets for future reference before submitting, and a submission acknowledgement is what settles any later query about whether a code was received. No claim is made about the marks any assignment will receive, about how an evaluator will assess it, or about whether it will be accepted. Assignment evaluation is entirely a matter for IGNOU.
What Else MSCAST Learners Pick Up in the Same Order

What Applied Statistics Learners Ask First
Which MSCAST codes actually have an assignment?
Eighteen at most: the sixteen MST theory codes from MST-011 to MST-026, plus MSTE-011 and MSTE-012 if you took the elective pair. If you took MSTP-011 Project/Dissertation instead of the pair, it is sixteen. The five MSTL lab courses have no assignment, which the paper states by name, and MSTP-011 has none either.
Can I submit a printed solved assignment for MST-012?
No. The instruction block on the MSCAST papers states that typed or printed copies will not be accepted, and MST-012 is not one of the two exceptions. Printouts are permitted only where a question asks for the output of a program, and the paper names MST-015 and MST-024 as the codes where that applies. A downloaded answer file is something to write from, not something to hand in.
Solved assignment aur handwritten assignment mein kya difference hai?

No, because there is nothing to write. IGNOU sets no assignment for MSTL-011, MSTL-012, MSTL-013, MSTL-014 or MSTL-015, and they are named on every MSCAST paper. Those five carry 18 credits and are assessed without a Tutor Marked Assignment.
I took MSTE-011 and MSTE-012 instead of the project. Do I owe two extra assignments?
Yes. Operations Research and Stochastic Processes are theory courses, so each carries a 100-mark Tutor Marked Assignment, and both would be ordered at ₹320 per subject. A learner who took MSTP-011 instead owes neither, because the project route carries no assignment.
My paper says MST-020/TMA/2025 but a friend’s says /TMA/2026. Which is right?
Both, for different papers. Two validity years were live in the School of Sciences folder when this page was checked. The assignment code printed on the file you downloaded is the authoritative statement of which paper you are answering, so send that code with your order rather than assuming the year from another course.
Is there a Hindi medium MST paper?
No. The Common Prospectus states the medium of instruction for MSCAST as English, and the assignment files are issued in English only. There is no Hindi MST question paper to ask for, so an English set is the only set there is to order.
Can I order a backlog MST code from an older year?

Is MST-011 the same course as MST-001?
No, and this trips people up regularly. MST-011 Real Analysis, Calculus and Geometry belongs to MSCAST. MST-001 belongs to PGDAST, the Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Statistics, which is a different programme from the same School of Sciences with its own MST-001 to MST-005 range. Order by the full number, never by the prefix alone.
Ignou typed assignment reject hota hai kya?
On MSCAST, yes, outside two named exceptions.
