What Is the IGNOU MSCCC Project (MEVP 033)?

The IGNOU MSCCC project is MEVP 033 Project Work, an 8-credit course in the second year of the Master of Science in Climate Change. The School of Interdisciplinary and Trans-disciplinary Studies (SOITS) opened the programme for the July 2026 admission cycle, and no separate MEVP 033 project handbook had been published when this page was reviewed.

Everything firm about the MSCCC project comes from one place: section 3.45 of the IGNOU Common Prospectus for July 2026. It lists MEVP 033 as “Project Work”, of type “Project”, carrying 8 of the programme’s 80 credits, in the second year. You will also see the code written as MEVP 33, MEVP-033 or MEVP033. All four refer to the same MSCCC project course.

The same section fixes the rest of the programme frame. MSCCC is open to graduates of any discipline, runs in English, takes a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 4, and is billed at Rs 8,000 per year, which is Rs 16,000 for the full programme at the printed rate (IGNOU may revise fees). It is admitted in the January and July cycles and paid year-wise. The programme coordinators named in the prospectus are Dr. V. Venkatramanan ([email protected]) and Prof. Shachi Shah ([email protected]).

If your admission slip says PGDCCC, PGCCC, MSCENV or MAEVS, MEVP 033 is not your project course. The programme table further down this page shows which code is.

MEVP 033 Project Fee, Last Date and Viva: What Is Settled Today

Only the fee is settled. The July 2026 Common Prospectus sets a project evaluation fee of Rs 500 for any project above 4 credits, paid with the term-end examination form and not refundable. MEVP 033 carries 8 credits, so the Rs 500 rate applies. The MEVP 033 submission route, dates and any viva still await instructions from SOITS.

Why the MSCCC second year carries two separate Rs 500 fees

The prospectus prices practical examinations on the same scale as projects: Rs 300 up to 4 credits and Rs 500 above 4 credits, also paid with the term-end examination form. MEVL 032 Climate Change Lab Course is 8 credits, so it attracts its own Rs 500 practical fee. The Rs 500 for MEVP 033 and the Rs 500 for MEVL 032 are two different payments for two different courses, alongside the examination fee of Rs 200 per theory course. Check both lines when you fill the form in your second year.

Is there a last date for MEVP 033 submission?

No MEVP 033 last date exists yet, and none can sensibly be quoted for a course that no learner has reached. IGNOU announces project report submission arrangements through its Student Evaluation Division for each term-end cycle. Be wary of pages that present 31 May and 30 November as universal project deadlines. In the MBA project guidelines those dates mark result windows, meaning the term-end cycle in which a submitted report is declared, and they do not transfer to MSCCC automatically. The prospectus also warns that a result can be withheld if the minimum period of study for the programme has not been completed, which matters for a two-year minimum programme like MSCCC.

Will MEVP 033 have a viva-voce?

SOITS has not said. Its nearest published project, MEVP-011 in the M.Sc. Environmental Science, does include a viva-voce at the Programme Study Centre, and its evaluation sheet gives the viva a large share of the marks (see the precedent table at the end of this page). A viva for MEVP 033 is therefore a reasonable possibility to prepare for, but it is not a confirmed MSCCC rule.

IGNOU MSCCC Project Topics: Four Kinds of Climate Evidence You Can Collect

A workable MSCCC project topic starts from evidence a distance learner can actually reach, then takes its question from an MSCCC course. Most climate change projects rest on one of four kinds of evidence: long-term weather and hazard records, surveys of households or farmers, reviews of climate plans and institutions, or small measurements you take yourself.

Choosing the evidence first keeps an 8-credit project finishable. A title such as “Impact of climate change on India” has no evidence route a single learner can complete. A title fixed to one district, one ward, one institution or one season usually does, and a local study is naturally your own, which matters because the SOITS handbook for the sister MEVP-011 project rejects completely identical proposals and reports.

1. Weather and hazard records

Long runs of rainfall, temperature, flood or drought data let you describe how climate in one place has changed. The India Meteorological Department publishes observed rainfall and temperature data, and national and state disaster management authorities publish hazard and disaster information. This route suits MEV 022 Impacts of Climate Change, MEV 026 Climate Change and Water and MEV 029 Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction. A title shape that works: “Trends in monsoon rainfall and dry spells in [district], [start year] to [end year], and their implications for [one sector].”

2. Household, farmer or worker surveys

A structured questionnaire measures how people perceive climate change and what they are doing about it. It needs no laboratory and suits learners from any discipline, which fits a programme that admits graduates of every stream. Draw the question from MEV 028 Climate Change and Agriculture, MEV 027 Climate Change and Energy or MEV 025 Climate Change and Society. A title shape that works: “Adaptation practices adopted by smallholder farmers in [block] in response to erratic rainfall.”

3. Climate plans, rules and institutions

A document and implementation study examines how a plan or rule works on the ground: a State Action Plan on Climate Change, a city heat action plan, or municipal waste rules in one ward. This route draws on the second-year courses MEV 031 Climate Change and Governance, MEV 030 Climate Change, Waste Management and Circular Economy and MEV 017 Environmental Legislations. A title shape that works: “Implementation of source segregation of municipal solid waste in [ward] under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.”

4. Measurements you take yourself

Some projects generate their own numbers: the carbon footprint of a school or office, the carbon stored in trees on a campus, or daytime temperature differences across a neighbourhood. MEV 024 Climate Change Assessment Tools is the course behind this route. Keep the measurement plan modest, record exactly how and when each reading was taken, and describe the method so an evaluator could repeat it.

Whichever route you choose, write objectives that do not presume the answer. “To analyse rainfall variability in [district]” leaves room for any finding. “To prove that rainfall has declined” does not, and it weakens a synopsis before anyone reads the method.

Where MEVP 033 Sits in the MSCCC Second Year

MEVP 033 is one of six compulsory second-year components of the MSCCC, alongside four theory courses and the MEVL 032 Climate Change Lab Course, with two optional courses completing 40 credits. MEV 019 Research Methodology for Environmental Science falls in the same year, and it is the course your MEVP 033 synopsis will draw on most.

Two eight-credit codes side by side is where confusion starts. MEVL 032 is a laboratory course with its own practical examination. MEVP 033 is your own study, from synopsis to report. Neither replaces the other, and a MEVP 033 reference set is no help with MEVL 032.

When does a first-cohort learner reach MEVP 033?

A learner admitted in July 2026 re-registers for the second year, MEVP 033 included, in the July 2027 cycle. Because MSCCC has a two-year minimum and year-wise examinations, the June 2028 term-end cycle is the earliest in which that learner can complete the degree. A January 2027 entrant moves the same way one cycle later, with December 2028 as the earliest completion. These are the earliest points the minimum duration allows, not deadlines, and they are worked out from the prospectus rather than announced by IGNOU.

Lateral entry and the PGDCCC exit

A learner who leaves after completing the 40 first-year credits may opt for the Post Graduate Diploma in Climate Change and never meets MEVP 033. In the other direction, the prospectus prints a note under PGDCCC that holders of an IGNOU climate change qualification may take lateral entry into the MSCCC second year, subject to University guidelines and the credit transfer policy. The note names PGCCC, a 16-credit certificate, so ask the programme coordinators exactly which qualification it covers. For any lateral entrant, MEVP 033 arrives in the first year of study, not the second.

MSCCC, PGDCCC or MSCENV: Which Climate Change Project Is Yours?

Only MSCCC learners take MEVP 033. PGDCCC and PGCCC carry no project at all, and learners on other SOITS environment programmes who choose a climate change topic are still writing their own programme’s project, such as MEVP 11 in the M.Sc. The reason this matters is practical. MSCENV and MAEVS both have published project rules of their own, and a climate change title does not turn an MEVP 11 or MEVP 012 project into MEVP 033. More Questions About the IGNOU MSCCC Project

Can I start my MSCCC project in the first year?

You register for MEVP 033 with your second-year courses, so formal work starts then. What you can do in the first year is shortlist two or three topic ideas, note which data sources exist for your area, and read the research methods material early. Do not fill or collect signatures on any proposal form until SOITS issues the MEVP 033 version.

Can I write my MSCCC project in Hindi?

The Common Prospectus gives English as the medium of instruction for MSCCC. No separate rule on the language of the MEVP 033 report has been published, so ask the programme coordinators before planning a Hindi report.

I am not a science graduate. Can I manage a climate change project?

MSCCC admits graduates of any discipline, so the project cannot assume a laboratory background. Survey-based and policy-based studies, the second and third evidence routes above, need careful method rather than instruments, and they suit commerce, arts and social science graduates well.

Must I finish MEV 019 before I submit MEVP 033?

The prospectus places MEV 019 Research Methodology for Environmental Science and MEVP 033 in the same year and states no prerequisite between them. In practice, study the sampling, data and analysis units of MEV 019 before you draft the synopsis, because those are the parts an evaluator reads closely.

Can I submit a reference set from this category as my own project?

No. A reference set shows structure and method. The MEVP-011 handbook for the sister SOITS programme states that completely identical proposals or reports are rejected and that every learner must do the work individually, and you should expect the same principle for MEVP 033.

One limit applies to every MEVP 033 sample right now, ours included. Until SOITS publishes the MEVP 033 handbook, no sample anywhere can reflect a final MEVP 033 format, because that format is not public. There is no MEVP 033 guidelines PDF yet. No MSCCC programme guide or MEVP 033 handbook appeared on ignou.ac.in or eGyanKosh when this page was reviewed. The nearest published model is the MEVP-011 Handbook on Project Work for the M.Sc. Environmental Science, a sister SOITS programme, which is useful for preparation but is not a set of MEVP 033 rules.

The comparison is closer than it first looks. Prof. Shachi Shah and Dr. V. Venkatramanan, the MSCCC coordinators, are also listed among the coordinators of the M.Sc. What an MEVP 033 synopsis draft should contain

The MEVP-011 handbook assesses a proposal on the relevance of the problem to the real world, the reasons for studying it, work already done in the area, the aims and feasibility of the study, project planning, and the objectives to be achieved. A draft MSCCC synopsis that answers those points in order will not need rebuilding when the MEVP 033 form arrives: a working title, the local problem and why it matters, a short review of existing studies, neutrally worded objectives, the study area, the data source or sample and how it will be collected, the tools of analysis, a realistic timeline, and a reference list.

Choosing a supervisor for a climate change project

SOITS has not yet stated who may supervise MEVP 033. Under MEVP-011, the supervisor is approved and recommended through the programme’s coordinating centre, and IGNOU, not the learner, pays for supervision. For now, identify one or two people with postgraduate teaching or research experience in environmental science or a related discipline who are willing to guide a climate study, and hold back on signed forms and bio-data until the MEVP 033 eligibility rule is published.
