What the IGNOU MBA project is: MMPP-001, also written MMPP 1
The MBA project, answered first
The IGNOU MBA project is the course MMPP-001, an eight-credit project taken in the third semester of the MBA, MBAFM, MBAHM, MBAMM, MBAOM, MBF and MBA (Online) programmes. IGNOU must approve your synopsis in writing before project work starts, and MMPP-001 is marked only on the final report.
Students search for it by its code, MMPP-001, as the IGNOU MMPP 1 project, or simply as the MBA project at IGNOU. The older code was MS-100, so a search for the MS-100 project leads to this same course, and the guidelines’ instructions for the proforma still print both: “earlier MS-100 and revised MMPP-001”. For registration MMPP-001 counts as one course although it carries the weight of two, and IGNOU supplies no additional study material for it. The January 2026 handbooks for the general MBA, the four specialisation MBAs and MBA (Online), and the MBA (Banking and Finance) handbook, all list MMPP-001 in Semester 3.
Four other IGNOU MBAs, run by other schools, have project courses of their own, so this category does not cover them: MBACN (MMPNP 001), MBALS (MMPLP 001), MBAABM (MAMP 060, Project Work) and MBAHCHM (MHHP 021, a six-credit project with a separate internship, MHHT 022). The July 2026 Common Prospectus lists each one. If your registration slip shows one of those codes, follow the project guide your own school issues.
Reference project sets for each MBA specialisation
Match the subject area on your proforma to a reference set
The IGNOU MBA project reference sets in this category are grouped by specialisation. The MMPP-001 proforma asks you to write one subject area, and your guide is expected to have experience in that area, so the same entry is the quickest way to pick a reference.
| Subject area you will write on the proforma | Usual programme | Open this reference set |
|---|---|---|
| Accounting and Finance | MBAFM, or a general MBA with a finance topic | MBA finance project references (MBAFM) |
| Accounting and Finance, with a banking topic | MBF (Banking and Finance) | MBF banking and finance project references |
| HRM and OB | MBAHM | MBA HR project references (MBAHM) |
| Marketing | MBAMM | MBA marketing project references (MBAMM) |
| Operations Management and Information System | MBAOM | MBA operations project references (MBAOM) |
| Corporate Management, or Any Other | General MBA or MBA (Online) | The set closest to your topic; ask on WhatsApp below if two seem to fit |
Printed MMPP-001 sets (hard copy)
Choosing the topic is the point where MBA students tell us they feel most lost, and many add that IGNOU gives them no class on how an MMPP-001 synopsis or report is put together.
A finished reference in your own subject area shows that structure on the page.
Searching for an IGNOU MBA project report sample PDF? Each set here is a soft copy reference for MMPP-001 format and structure. The printed category holds bound copies from our own press. MBA (Online) students take the same MMPP-001 course and can use the same sets.

Seven checks before you trust an IGNOU MBA project synopsis sample PDF
Searches for an IGNOU MBA project synopsis sample PDF, or an MMPP1 synopsis PDF, are among the queries that bring the most clicks to this category in our Search Console data, and the free samples passed around online disagree with the MMPP-001 guidelines on basic points. The sample pages we read while preparing this page put an abstract in the synopsis, set word limits and fonts that IGNOU never set, and called result dates deadlines. Run these checks on any sample, ours included, before you borrow its structure.
Seven checks, built from the MMPP-001 guidelines
Each check comes from the MMPP-001 project guidelines read in October 2026. The errors named are ones that appeared on sample pages returned for these searches during our research.
- Count the parts. An MMPP-001 synopsis has five: introduction, rationale, objectives, research methodology and limitations. Many synopses that reach us leave out the objectives or the methodology, although the guidelines call the objectives the most important part of the project; hypotheses are a different case, because the MMPP-001 list does not name them, so add them only when your design tests one.
- Look inside the methodology. It should name the research design, the nature and source of data, the sample and sampling technique with a reason for the organisation and sample chosen, the tools or questionnaire and how they serve the objectives, the method of collection, and the statistical tools with their link to the objectives. In our experience an MMPP-001 synopsis comes back when the rationale is missing, or when the questionnaire the methodology relies on is not there.
- Read the objectives aloud. The guidelines want them precise, in behavioural terms and neutral, with no finding assumed in advance. Their own sample stems begin “To study”, “To explore”, “To analyse” and “To investigate”.
- Strike out invented rules. Sample pages add an abstract to the synopsis and cap it at 8 to 10 pages. Others prescribe APA or MLA style, Times New Roman with 1.5 spacing, or a report of 12,000 to 15,000 words. None of this appears in the MMPP-001 guidelines. One caution from our desk: evaluators have returned MBA synopses asking for the period of the study or a chapter scheme, even though the MMPP-001 list names neither, so a line on the period inside the sampling note costs nothing.
- Check the dates. A sample that calls 31 May or 30 November the last date for the synopsis or the report has misread the guidelines; those dates only decide which result cycle a report joins.
- Check the office. The MMPP-001 synopsis goes to the Regional Director of your own Regional Centre (MBA Online students use the LMS portal). Samples that address it to a projects coordinator at the School of Management Studies are wrong.
- Check the paperwork. A complete set shows the current “Proforma for Approval of Project Proposal (MMPP-001)” and leaves room for the guide’s signed bio-data. A sample carrying an older MS-100 form tells you its age.
What a reference set cannot do for you
A reference shows how a finished IGNOU MBA project volume is organised. It cannot be your synopsis. The guidelines state that the synopsis should be the student’s original work, the Certificate of Originality you sign with your guide says the project is your original work and has not been submitted before, and a plagiarised report is dealt with under the University’s policy.
MBA synopses assembled from widely shared material, or from the same outside source as other students, tend to arrive with the same title, and in the MMPP-001 synopses we see, a duplicated topic is one of the usual reasons for a return.
That is why we suggest reading a reference for its order of chapters, the way its objectives are phrased and how its tools connect to them, and then closing it before you write a line of your own.
- Students show us MBA project plans drafted with an AI chatbot before anyone opened the MMPP-001 guidelines, so the plan does not match the methodology points the course lists.
- AI text submitted unchanged, synopsis or report, is a second reason identical MMPP-001 topics keep turning up. It also puts your signature on the originality certificate at risk.
IGNOU MBA project topics: how do you choose one you can finish?
The MMPP-001 guidelines print no topic list. You may choose any topic, preferably from your area of specialisation, and the title should be definitive enough to tell a reader what the study covers. The title the evaluator approves is the one your final report must carry, so the topic decision is really a decision about data you can reach within the time left.
Students often ask us for “the official MMPP-001 topic list”, believing they must pick a title from it word for word. There is none in the guidelines; any example title you see, including the ones below, is a starting point and not an IGNOU list.
The guidelines allow three kinds of study: a comprehensive case study of one organisation or a multifunctional problem within it, an inter-organisational study (comparison, validation of theory or a survey of management practices), and a field study built on empirical data. Deciding the type first makes the methodology part of the synopsis much easier to write.
Study type by proforma subject area: example titles
A planning aid written for this page. The three study types come from the MMPP-001 guidelines; the titles are illustrations, not topics set by IGNOU.
| Subject area | Case study | Inter-organisational study | Field study |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accounting and Finance (MBAFM, MBF) | Liquidity and profitability trends of one listed FMCG company, 2021-22 to 2025-26 | Asset quality of two private sector banks compared through their published annual reports | Use of systematic investment plans among salaried employees in one district |
| HRM and OB (MBAHM) | The grievance handling procedure at one manufacturing unit | Leave and flexible work policies of three IT service firms in one city | Work-life balance of women employees in private hospitals of one city |
| Marketing (MBAMM) | Dealer network and order cycle of one regional dairy brand | Loyalty programmes of two supermarket chains compared | Factors behind two-wheeler purchase decisions of first-time buyers in one town |
| Operations Management and Information System (MBAOM) | Inventory classification and stock-outs at one pharmacy distributor | Adoption of warehouse management software in three logistics firms | Customer satisfaction with last-mile delivery among online shoppers in one city |
Notice how many of these titles name one city or district. Among the MMPP-001 synopses that come back to students we work with, a frequent evaluator comment asks for the study to be set in the student’s own city; it is a pattern we see, not a written rule.
Many MBA students plan the whole project on published figures alone. The MMPP-001 guidelines do not forbid secondary data, and a case study or an inter-organisational comparison can rest on annual reports, but a field study is empirical by definition, and the synopsis has to say plainly where each kind of data comes from.
Talk through your MBA project topic before the proforma
Four kinds of people can sign as your IGNOU MBA project guide
The MMPP-001 guidelines number three eligibility criteria, and the third covers two kinds of person, which gives four groups in practice:
- Management faculty of the School of Management Studies at IGNOU headquarters.
- Approved academic counsellors of the Management Programme at study centres who have relevant experience.
- Management faculty with five years of postgraduate teaching experience.
- Professionals with a master’s degree in management or an allied discipline and at least five years of experience in the relevant area after that degree. The guidelines’ own example: a marketing topic needs a supervisor with five years in marketing.
The guidelines also advise choosing a guide who is an active professional in the area of your topic, and they ask guides to supervise only within their core specialisation. A finance title signed by an HR manager is the sort of mismatch the Faculty can refuse, and a refused guide means a fresh proposal.
Most MBA students who reach us with a guide already chosen have not read these four routes, and the person they picked misses on years of experience or on the subject area of the MMPP-001 topic.
| What students expect | What the MMPP-001 guidelines describe |
|---|---|
| The study centre will allot a guide | MBA students often tell us they asked the coordinator at their study centre and were given no name. The MMPP-001 guidelines describe no allotment: you approach an eligible person yourself, and approved counsellors of the Management Programme are one of the recognised groups you can ask. |
| Anyone with an MBA in the family can sign | Students tell us that with no guide allotted, they turned to a relative or a family contact. That can work for MMPP-001 only when the person meets one of the four routes above for your subject area; check that first, because the Faculty approves the guide separately from the synopsis. |
The guide’s bio-data, and the five-student limit
If you identify your own guide, the guide’s bio-data travels with the synopsis. It is not needed when the guide is an approved IGNOU counsellor. The guidelines ask for it to be “absolutely unambiguous” and list what it must show:
- Name and date of birth.
- Full address and contact numbers of the residence and of the current workplace.
- Each degree with its specialisation, the university or institution with its address, the year of award and the percentage of marks.
- Work experience in chronological order, with designation, period and a contactable address for each organisation.
- Any other information that helps assess eligibility; a current business card may be attached.
The guide signs it in original and dates it. Without a signed bio-data and a signed proforma, the synopsis is not entertained. A guide may supervise at most five MMPP-001 students at a time, which is why the proforma asks how many the guide is currently guiding, and IGNOU pays the guide a token honorarium of Rs 500.
We have seen MBA synopses returned where the guide’s bio-data carried no stamp or no proof of current work. The MMPP-001 guidelines do not ask for a stamp. They do ask for contactable work details, and they allow the guide’s current business card to be attached, which can help.
Plan for revision rounds too. When the guide sends the MMPP-001 draft back several times, a synopsis meant for this month can slip by several weeks, and the six-month window below keeps running meanwhile.
IGNOU MBA synopsis format (MMPP 1): the five parts in detail
The IGNOU MBA project guidelines say the synopsis should “essentially have” five parts, prepared in consultation with the guide after the topic is fixed.
| Part | What the MMPP-001 guidelines ask it to carry |
|---|---|
| Introduction | A brief background to the subject chosen for study. |
| Rationale | Why this topic was chosen for the project work. |
| Objectives | Called “the most important aspect” of the project: what you hope to know or achieve by the end, stated clearly, precisely, in behavioural terms and neutrally. |
| Research methodology | Research design; nature and source of data; sample and sampling technique, with the rationale for the organisation and sample; tools and techniques for collection, with details of the questionnaire and its relevance to the objectives; method of data collection; data handling and analysis, with the statistical tools and their relevance to the objectives. |
| Limitations | Limitations of the proposed project, if any. |
The document sets no synopsis length and no font. Keep it as long as these five parts need and no longer. For a fuller walk-through, from research design and sampling to simple analysis such as cross-tabulation, BK Sahni has published an open lesson, Research Methodology for IGNOU MBA Projects (MMPP-001), on Zenodo.
A handwritten MBA synopsis still reaches us now and then. The MMPP-001 guidelines ask for a typed report in double spacing; type the synopsis as well, so that the evaluator reads the same clean pages your report will later carry bound inside it.
- Length matters at the next stage. The synopsis has no word limit, but we have seen MBA reports returned for running well past the roughly 18,000 words the MMPP-001 guidelines allow.
- The questionnaire you describe under tools has to reappear in the report’s annexures later; some survey-based MBA reports reach us without it, although the MMPP-001 structure lists the questionnaire used.
The MMPP-001 proforma, field by field
The IGNOU MBA project proposal form is titled “Proforma for Approval of Project Proposal (MMPP-001)” and sits at the end of the guidelines. You fill in the enrolment number, study centre, Regional Centre, subject area, your name, the complete postal address where the synopsis is to be sent, your email, the topic, the supervisor’s name and address (preferably the official address), whether the supervisor is an academic counsellor of the IGNOU Management Programme (if yes, the study centre code and the courses counselled), and the number of students the supervisor is guiding. You and the supervisor both sign and date it. The Project Proposal number box is left blank; the Regional Centre fills it.
“Which proforma?” is a question many MBA students ask us. Some post the synopsis with no proforma, others attach the wrong one; for the MBA project it must be the MMPP-001 form described here.
Two fields carry consequences beyond the form. If your four-year maximum duration has run out, you seek re-admission before sending the synopsis, and an approval held on the old enrolment number has to be sought again on the new one, or the report may not be accepted. The topic you write becomes the title the evaluator approves, and no change is allowed when the final report goes in.
- Proformas reach us with the supervisor’s details incomplete and sometimes the student’s own name, email or postal address missing; read the whole MMPP-001 form back once before anyone signs it.
- An empty topic line on the MMPP-001 proforma is enough for the synopsis to come back.
Where does the MMPP-001 synopsis go?
ODL students of the MBA programmes listed at the top of this page send the synopsis to the Regional Director of their own Regional Centre. MBA (Online) students upload it to their designated Regional Centre through the LMS portal. The guidelines also mention forwarding a proposal to your Regional Centre using the email IDs listed on the IGNOU website; ask your own Centre whether it accepts that route for your session before relying on it.
The packet holds three things: the signed and dated proforma, one copy of the proposal and the guide’s signed bio-data (left out when the guide is an approved counsellor). Write “MMPP-001” prominently on the envelope, address it to the Regional Director, and keep a copy of everything for yourself.
| Where students go wrong | What happens and what to do |
|---|---|
| Handing the synopsis in at Maidan Garhi | We meet MBA students who could not decide between the study centre and the Regional Centre, and a few who carried the MMPP-001 synopsis to Maidan Garhi itself, which leads to rejection. Maidan Garhi (the Registrar, SED) receives the finished report; the synopsis belongs with your Regional Director. |
| Binding or filing the synopsis | Students ask us whether the MBA synopsis should be spiral bound or put in a file, and which papers go with it. The MMPP-001 guidelines list the three enclosures above and say nothing about binding the synopsis; binding is specified only for the final report. |
| No proof of sending | Many students forget to keep a receipt for the MMPP-001 packet, and then have nothing to show the Regional Centre when they ask about a proposal number. Keep the postal slip or a stamped acknowledgement. |
When to send it: after registration, within six months
The synopsis can be sent at any time of the year, but only after MMPP-001 is registered. If it reaches the Regional Centre more than six months after that registration, the Centre is not responsible for disposing of it in time, and the guidelines warn that late senders are likely to miss the timeline for the report. The reasoning is printed too: students should have at least eight to nine months to finish the project before the fourth semester expires.
Many MBA students assume the synopsis and report go in together near a date they believe is final, post both without the guide’s signature, and lose the whole packet. MMPP-001 runs in two stages: the synopsis to the Regional Director first, then the report to the Registrar (SED) only after written approval arrives.
In the MBA project season many synopses land in the final week before whatever date the student has fixed on, which for MMPP-001 may be a result-window date with no bearing on the synopsis.
Leaving it that late has an honest cost: there is no time left to write the synopsis yourself, and the MMPP-001 guidelines expect the synopsis to be your own original work, planned with your guide.
31 May, 30 November and 30 November 2026: three dates MBA students mix up
The MMPP-001 guidelines set no single IGNOU MBA project submission last date. None of the three dates below is a last date for the synopsis, and two of them are not last dates at all.
| Date | What it really decides | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 31 May | End of a result window. A report submitted from 1 December to 31 May has its result declared with the June term-end examinations. | MMPP-001 guidelines |
| 30 November | End of the other window. A report submitted from 1 June to 30 November joins the December term-end results. The report itself can be submitted at any time of the year. | MMPP-001 guidelines |
| 30 November 2026 | A real last date: the last day to pay the project fee for the December 2026 term-end examination. | IGNOU Student Evaluation Division notice, listed 18 September 2026 |
In our records, 70 to 80 percent of the students we hear from get moving only in the final month before a date they believe is final; with a November date, most surface in October. For MMPP-001, count back instead from the six-month synopsis window and the two to three month wait for approval.
- Many MBA students expect IGNOU to extend each date by about a month and plan around the extended date. For MMPP-001 that bet costs a full result cycle when it fails, and no one can tell you in advance whether an extension will come.
- Students regularly ask us whether a published date belongs to the synopsis or the report. For MMPP-001 the synopsis has no calendar date, only the six-month window from registration; the dates above concern the report and its fee.
No notice for a December 2026 online upload of project reports appeared on IGNOU’s notices page when this page was prepared on 13 October 2026. The MMPP-001 guidelines route ODL reports by post or by hand, and MBA (Online) reports through the LMS portal.
Two to three months: the wait for a written decision
An IGNOU MBA project proposal that reaches the Regional Centre complete in every respect is accepted and given a Project Proposal (PP) number, unique to you, which you quote in all later letters to the Centre. An expert then evaluates it, and the guidelines say a written communication of approval or non-approval will be sent within two to three months of receipt. Project work starts only after that written approval.
The MMPP-001 guidelines print two to three months, and in our experience that is close to how long MBA students actually wait; approval letters reaching students late is a common story at our desk.
- Most MBA students who call us at the two-month mark do not know whom to ask. For MMPP-001 the guidelines name one office for approval questions: the Regional Director of your own Regional Centre, with your PP number to hand.
- We have seen MMPP-001 students who did not receive a decision letter and found out only when the session had run out. Write to the Regional Director once the three months have passed rather than waiting longer.
Approved with comments, or returned: what to do next
If the proposal is not approved, the evaluator’s comments for reformulating it are sent to you. The revised proposal goes back with a fresh proforma, a copy of the rejected proposal and proforma bearing the evaluator’s comments, and the PP number the Regional Centre allotted. If the Faculty does not approve your proposed guide, you choose a new guide and send the proposal again with the new guide’s signature; IGNOU treats it as a new proposal, and the same applies if you change guides for reasons of your own.
Most MMPP-001 approvals we see arrive with correction or modification points written on them, so treat an approval letter as a to-do list for the report.
The point evaluators raise most often is the review of literature, even though the MMPP-001 synopsis list does not name one: they ask for recent studies in place of old ones. The report opens with a literature review, so bring it up to date before the MMPP-001 report goes in.
On resubmission, many MBA students forget the copy of the rejected MMPP-001 proposal with the evaluator’s remarks, which the guidelines list among the papers a resubmission needs.
From approved synopsis to report: length and order
The IGNOU MBA project report runs to about 50 to 60 double-spaced typed pages, not exceeding roughly 18,000 words excluding appendices and exhibits, with reasonable variation either way. It is typed on A-4 paper in a bound volume. The structure the guidelines set:
- Introduction to the project and review of literature, with brief details of the organisation or organisations studied, the rationale, the statement of the problem, the objectives and the scope.
- Research methodology: design, nature and source of data, sample and sampling method with rationale, the questionnaire and other tools with their purpose, their reliability and validity, data collection and the statistical tools used.
- Results and discussion, in tables or graphs, with the interpretation of data and findings given in detail.
- Summary and conclusion.
- Recommendations.
- Limitations, and direction for further research (optional).
- References and bibliography.
- Annexures and appendices, including the questionnaire used.
Around these eight parts sit a cover page with your name, enrolment number, the guide’s name and the title, a detailed table of contents with page numbers, and page numbering that matches it. The guidelines are silent on font and margins. They also set no referencing style, and the 50 to 60 page figure is a guide with reasonable variation allowed, not a hard minimum; choose one plain academic style and keep it consistent.
- Once the approval letter arrives, many MBA students ask us what format the MMPP-001 report should follow; the eight-part list above, with the pages listed after it, is the official answer.
- The order of pages confuses many. The MMPP-001 guidelines put the questionnaire in the annexures at the end and require a cover page, a contents page and the bound-in approved proposal, but set no page order for those; put the cover first and keep the order consistent with your table of contents.
- Spiral binding is a choice we still see on MBA reports. The MMPP-001 text asks for a bound volume and refuses a stapled proposal, so pick a binding that keeps the approved proposal, proforma and bio-data fixed inside.
Review of literature and references
The literature review opens the MMPP-001 report alongside the introduction, and the reference list comes near the end, just before the annexures, so the two should describe the same body of reading.
Many MBA reports we see carry an out-of-date review, and in our experience it costs marks, so bring the review up to date before the MMPP-001 volume is bound.
- In many MBA reports we read, authors cited in the review are missing from the references, or the references list works that the review does not mention. Check one against the other before the MMPP-001 report goes for printing.
- Reference lists also drift between styles and leave out the reports or websites the data came from. The MMPP-001 guidelines set no style, so pick one consistent format and list each secondary source used in the analysis.
Results and discussion: where most MBA reports are thinnest
The guidelines ask for results in tabular or graphical form with the interpretation “given elaborately”. A table followed by one line of description does not meet that. Each table should lead back to an objective stated in the approved synopsis, through the statistical tool the methodology promised.
In many MBA reports we see, the analysis chapter is too thin to support the MMPP-001 objectives and methodology it was meant to answer.
The data and the words in that chapter have to be yours.
- Some students fill the MMPP-001 analysis chapter with assumed figures and no real survey behind them. That breaks the originality certificate you and your guide sign, whatever the report looks like.
- Others paste passages from websites into the MBA report without checking them for plagiarism; the MMPP-001 guidelines say a plagiarised report is dealt with under the University’s policy, so check your own text before binding.
Documents that must be bound inside the MMPP-001 report
Before binding, the IGNOU MBA project report must contain the approved proposal (the project proposal, the approved proforma and the guide’s bio-data) bound in properly rather than stapled, plus a Certificate of Originality signed and dated by you and your guide. The guidelines state that a project with a stapled proposal will not be accepted, and that a report missing any of these documents is returned to the student for compliance. The certificate format is printed in the guidelines and may be used as it stands.
- MBA reports come back to students when these MMPP-001 papers are missing, usually because the student did not know the approved proforma and bio-data had to be bound inside.
- Some students send the originality certificate with only their own signature and the guide’s column empty. MMPP-001 asks for both signatures with dates.
- Some MBA reports reach us with the filled-in questionnaires attached at the end. Among the annexures MMPP-001 names the questionnaire used and says nothing about responses, so one blank copy is the common practice.
For printed copies with these documents in their place, the IGNOU MBA project hard copy category covers bound reference sets from our press.

Submitting the IGNOU MBA project report
ODL students send one typed, bound copy to the Registrar (SED), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110068, by registered post, speed post or by hand, with “PROJECT REPORT-MMPP-001” written on top of the envelope. A PR number is allotted on submission, and you quote it in every later letter. The copy is not returned after evaluation, so keep your own. MBA (Online) students submit through the LMS portal, and their handbook says hard copies sent to a study centre, Regional Centre or SED will not be considered.
- Students ask us how many copies to send and to whom. For MMPP-001 the answer is one copy, to the Registrar (SED), with a second copy kept at home.
- Some MBA students email the report as a PDF and wait. The MMPP-001 guidelines route ODL reports by registered or speed post or by hand, and MBA (Online) reports through the LMS portal; email is not among those routes.
- A report handed in without a receipt leaves no trail. Keep the speed post slip or the counter acknowledgement until the MMPP-001 result appears.
For the status of a submitted report, the guidelines direct students to the Assistant Registrar (SED), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, at [email protected] or 011-29571324 and 011-29571321, quoting the PR number. The result follows the window in which the report was submitted.
Questions MBA students bring about MMPP-001
Seven questions, answered from the documents
Is there any fee for the IGNOU MBA project?
Yes, in two places. The third-semester programme fee is Rs 18,000 against Rs 16,000 for each other semester in the July 2026 Common Prospectus and the January 2026 MBA handbooks, which give the eight-credit project as the reason; the MBF handbook file of 2025 prints Rs 17,500 and Rs 15,500, so check the amount on your admission portal. Separately, a project evaluation fee of Rs 500 is paid with the term-end examination form for the session in which you submit the report. The Rs 500 honorarium in the guidelines is paid by IGNOU to your guide, not by you.
Rs 300 or Rs 500 is a mix-up we hear often. The Common Prospectus charges Rs 300 for projects of up to four credits and Rs 500 above four credits, and MMPP-001 carries eight, so the MBA project fee is Rs 500.
Is a viva compulsory for the IGNOU MBA project?
MBA students often ask us whether they should prepare for a viva. Under the MMPP-001 guidelines a viva-voce is held only if the evaluator recommends it, and the student is informed in that case.
Can I change my topic or guide after approval?
The title cannot change: the final report must carry the title the evaluator approved. A new guide means a new proforma signed by that guide, and IGNOU treats the proposal as a new one.
What does change after approval is the content the evaluator commented on. Many MBA students file the approval letter and forget the remarks written on it; work each MMPP-001 comment into the report.
How much weight does MMPP-001 (earlier MS-100) carry in the MBA?
Of the 116 credits in the MBA (and in MBF), MMPP-001 carries 8, the weight of two courses. There is no re-evaluation of project reports and no improvement of marks for projects, according to the January 2026 handbooks.
Can Excel or SPSS be used for the analysis?
The MMPP-001 guidelines name no software. They ask that the statistical tools be stated in the synopsis, related to the objectives and reported in the methodology chapter; the program you use to run them is your choice.
Where can I get an MMPP1 synopsis PDF?
The official MMPP-001 guidelines, including the proforma and the Certificate of Originality, are a free PDF on IGNOU’s website, linked under the sources below. The reference sets in this category add a finished reference project for the five subject areas in the table above, to study for format and structure, not to submit.
Can I complete the MBA without the project?
No. The MBA degree needs all 28 courses, MMPP-001 included. The handbooks offer an exit after the first and second semesters (56 credits), on your specific request, with a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDIM).
Other material for IGNOU MBA students
Beyond the IGNOU MBA project itself, the taught courses have their own material: see the MMPC help books for the MBA new syllabus, the MMPC solved assignments and the MMPC solved guess papers. MBF students have the MBF banking and finance books and MBA banking and finance solved assignments, and MBA (Online) students the MBAOL books. MCom students on MCOP-001 belong in the IGNOU MCom project category, and every programme is listed under all IGNOU projects in soft copy.
Students who want one-to-one support around their own topic and data, rather than a reference to study, can look at our customised project service. Call or WhatsApp 9354637830 for anything else, or use the contact page.

Approval questions go to the Regional Director of your own Regional Centre; questions on a submitted report go to the Assistant Registrar (SED) at [email protected]. IGNOU alone decides its rules, and where two of its documents differ, this page says so.
Shrichakradhar.com is an independent publisher, not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by Indira Gandhi National Open University. The MMPP-001 sets in this category are study references for format and structure, not for submission as your own work: everything you submit must be your own work, and IGNOU’s evaluator alone decides approval and marks.
