What Is the IGNOU MAHUE Project (MHUP-014), and Is It a Project or a Dissertation?
The IGNOU MAHUE project is MHUP-014, an 8-credit course in the second year of the Master of Arts in Human Values and Ethics. IGNOU titles it “Dissertation/Project”, so the MAHUE project and the MAHUE dissertation are the same course, not two separate courses. It is the only project-type course in the programme.
MAHUE is run by the School of Inter-Disciplinary and Trans-Disciplinary Studies (SOITS). IGNOU’s launch notification No. 173, dated 6 February 2026, offers it through ODL from the January 2026 session. The programme page lists any graduation as eligibility, English as the medium, a duration of 24 to 48 months and 80 credits in total. The second year carries 40 of those credits: six theory courses, MHU-008 to MHU-013, plus MHUP-014. That makes the dissertation one fifth of your second-year load and one tenth of the whole degree, which is why it deserves planning well before you register for it.
Why IGNOU gives MHUP-014 two names
Students search for “MAHUE project” and “MAHUE dissertation” as if they were different things. On the MAHUE programme page and in the Common Prospectus July 2026, the course title reads “Dissertation/ Proiect” (the misspelling of Project is IGNOU’s own), with the course type given as Project. In ordinary academic use, a dissertation leans towards an argued, literature-based study and a project leans towards applied or field work. The MHUP-014 title keeps both words, and IGNOU has not yet published a course guide that says which kind of study it expects. Until it does, the safest reading is that MHUP-014 is one 8-credit research requirement, and you will learn its exact rules from the course guide once SOITS releases it.

Has IGNOU Published the MHUP-014 Guidelines Yet?
Not as of 23 September 2026. We searched ignou.ac.in and eGyanKosh for an MHUP-014 dissertation guide and found none. eGyanKosh currently carries first-year MAHUE material such as MHU-001 and MHU-004, and our search found nothing yet for the second year. So some facts about the MAHUE dissertation are fixed by official documents, and others simply do not exist in public yet. The ledger below keeps the two apart, so you never act on a rule that nobody has actually written.

What the evaluation fee and upload rules already tell you
Two administrative points apply to MHUP-014 today, because they are University-wide. First, the Common Prospectus July 2026 sets the project evaluation fee at Rs 300 for project work up to 4 credits and Rs 500 above 4 credits. MHUP-014 carries 8 credits, so the Rs 500 band applies, paid with your term-end examination form. The prospectus also states that examination fees, once paid, are neither refundable nor adjustable. Second, IGNOU’s instructions for online project submission say that incomplete reports are not evaluated, reports sent by email are not considered, and the approved proforma, synopsis, guide bio-data and a signed originality certificate should be included wherever applicable. IGNOU’s June 2026 examination form page also advises keeping your hall ticket, since a copy may be submitted with project reports and dissertations.
Everything else about the MAHUE dissertation will come from the MHUP-014 course guide. If a website quotes you a fixed page count, a guide qualification or a synopsis address for MHUP-014 today, ask which IGNOU document it came from.

A reference set shows how an ethics study is framed, argued, evidenced and referenced, so you can plan your own before the first meeting with your guide.
One honest limit comes with every MHUP-014 sample right now. Because IGNOU has not yet published the MHUP-014 course guide, no sample anywhere can show IGNOU’s final MHUP-014 format, since that format is not yet public. What a sample can show is the thinking: how a working title is narrowed, how objectives are stated, how a chapter on Indian ethical traditions sits beside a chapter of evidence, and how sources are acknowledged. Use it that way. The title, the data, the argument and the conclusions in your own MHUP-014 dissertation must be yours, and IGNOU’s submission instructions ask for an originality certificate signed by both you and your guide wherever one applies.

When Will You Actually Reach the MAHUE Dissertation?
You register for MHUP-014 with your second-year courses, and no MAHUE learner can finish the programme in less than 24 months. For the first cohort, who joined in January 2026, that places the earliest possible completion in the December 2027 term-end cycle. The table works this out for each admission session from the programme’s minimum duration.

These are the earliest points the 24-month minimum allows, not deadlines. Your re-registration dates, examination form dates and project submission dates will be announced by IGNOU for each cycle, and the maximum duration of 48 months gives you room if a semester slips. The useful consequence is simple: first-year learners have about a year to think about a topic without any pressure from forms or portals.
PGDHUE learners and the dissertation
The first year of MAHUE ends with an exit option, the PG Diploma in Human Values and Ethics (PGDHUE). PGDHUE is also offered as a separate programme from the July 2025 session under IGNOU notification No. 168, with seven theory courses, MHU-001 to MHU-007, and 40 credits. MHUP-014 is not part of PGDHUE. If you hold or are studying for PGDHUE only, you have no dissertation to write.
MAHUE Dissertation Topics: Start From the MHU Courses You Have Already Studied
The quickest route to a workable MAHUE dissertation topic is to begin with one MHU course you understood well and one kind of evidence you can realistically collect. The thirteen MAHUE theory courses fall into six research lanes. Pick a lane first, then narrow the title to one group, one place and one period.

The titles above are ours, written to show scope. None of them is an IGNOU-approved topic, and your guide may reshape any of them. Notice what each one does: it names a population, a place or a text, and a boundary. A title such as “Role of values in society” does none of that, which is why it is hard to finish in the time an 8-credit course allows.
Stating MAHUE dissertation objectives neutrally
The IGNOU project guides we have read, including the MBA and MLIS ones, ask for objectives stated neutrally, without assuming what the study will find. For an ethics study this matters doubly, because a value-laden objective (“to prove that moral education improves behaviour”) has already decided the answer. A neutral version reads “to examine the relationship between exposure to moral education and self-reported behaviour among Class 9 students in two schools”. Three or four objectives of that kind are enough for a study of this size.
Dissertation Route or Project Route: Which Fits Your MHUP-014 Topic?
Choose the dissertation route if your question is about what an idea, text or tradition means; choose the project route if your question is about what people or institutions actually do. The MHUP-014 title allows either reading until the course guide says otherwise. The comparison below is our explanation of common academic practice, not an IGNOU definition.

One shape that works under either reading combines the two: a conceptual chapter that sets out the framework, followed by a small, well-bounded body of evidence. That shape also keeps you safe whichever way the MHUP-014 guide leans.
Research ethics is part of your MAHUE syllabus
MAHUE is unusual in that research ethics is itself a first-year course, MHU-007 Research and Innovation Ethics. An ethics dissertation that handles its own respondents carelessly undercuts its own subject. If your MHUP-014 study involves people, plan consent forms, anonymised records and a short statement of how data will be stored before you collect a single response.
Can You Start the MHUP-014 Synopsis Before the Guide Is Out?
You can prepare the thinking behind an MHUP-014 synopsis now, but not the paperwork. The MBA and MLIS project guides we have read both ask for a proposal proforma and the guide’s signed bio-data, yet they disagree on where the synopsis goes. The MBA guide (MMPP-001) sends it to the Regional Director of the student’s own Regional Centre. The MLIS guide (MLIP-002) sends it to the Programme Coordinator at IGNOU headquarters. That disagreement is exactly why nobody can tell you the MHUP-014 route today.
What to prepare now
- A working title built from one research lane in the table above, with a named group, place or text.
- Three or four neutral objectives, written as questions the evidence can answer.
- A reading list drawn from your own MHU course blocks on eGyanKosh and the references they cite.
- For field or survey work, an informal check that the school, office or organisation will actually let you in.
- A shortlist of one or two possible guides, without asking anyone to sign yet.
What to leave until the MHUP-014 guide is published
- The proposal proforma and the cover page wording.
- The office or email address the synopsis goes to.
- Page or word limits, referencing style and binding or PDF requirements.
- Any claim about a viva or about how marks are divided.
Choosing a guide without published eligibility rules
Guide rules differ sharply between IGNOU programmes. The MBA project accepts, among other routes, a professional with a master’s degree and at least five years of relevant experience. The MLIS project requires a guide with a PhD or master’s in library science at Assistant Professor scale or equivalent. For MHUP-014 nothing has been published, so a sensible shortlist is someone with a postgraduate qualification in philosophy, ethics, education or a related social science who teaches or researches in that area. Treat the shortlist as provisional until SOITS states the rule, and do not collect a signed bio-data on a guess.
Questions MAHUE Students Ask About MHUP-014
Is MHUP-014 compulsory in the MA in Human Values and Ethics?
The published MAHUE structure lists MHUP-014 among the fourteen courses that make up the 80 credits, and it shows no elective alternative to it. Read that as part of the degree unless IGNOU announces otherwise.
Can I write my MAHUE dissertation in Hindi?
The programme page and the prospectus give English as the medium of instruction for MAHUE. No separate rule on the language of the MHUP-014 dissertation has been published, so ask the Programme Coordinator before you plan a Hindi submission.
Is there a viva for the MAHUE project?
Nothing published for MHUP-014 mentions a viva-voce. Practice varies across IGNOU: in the MBA project, for example, a viva happens only if the evaluator recommends one. Wait for the MHUP-014 guide rather than preparing for a rule that may not exist.
How long should the MHUP-014 dissertation be?
IGNOU has not set a length for MHUP-014. Other IGNOU guides show why you should not borrow a number: the MBA guide suggests about 50 to 60 double-spaced pages, while the MLIS guide sets no page or word limit at all.
Is MHUP-014 the same as the MA Philosophy dissertation?
No. The MA Philosophy dissertation is MPYP 1, a 4-credit course in a different programme, even though both sit in SOITS. Its rules do not transfer to MHUP-014.
Can I submit a sample from this category as my own dissertation?
No. A sample is reference material for planning and structure. IGNOU’s submission instructions require an originality certificate signed and dated by both you and your guide, and your report must present your own study.
