What Is the IGNOU MAENOH Project, and Who Has to Do MEVP 001?

The IGNOU MAENOH project is MEVP 001 Project, a compulsory 4-credit course in the second year of the Master of Arts (Environmental and Occupational Health). You plan one study with an approved supervisor, get the proposal approved through your Regional Centre, then submit the report and face a viva. The report carries 70 marks and the viva 30.

MAENOH belongs to the School of Inter-Disciplinary and Trans-Disciplinary Studies (SOITS). IGNOU launched it in ODL mode from the January 2025 session through Academic Programme Launch Notification No. 157: 80 credits, English medium, annual examinations, a minimum of two years and a maximum of four. The July 2026 Common Prospectus lists the fee as Rs 7,700 per year. MEVP 001 appears in the second-year course list in both the launch notification and the prospectus, so most learners reach it only after re-registering for Year 2.

One printing detail confuses students. The prospectus leaves the credit column for MEVP 001 blank. The launch notification and the official MAENOH programme page both give it 4 credits, and 4 is also the figure that makes the second year add up to 40 credits. Treat the MAENOH project as a 4-credit course; that number decides the fee and the size of the report, as the sections below show.

MAENOH or MAEOH, MEVP 001 or MEVP 1: is it one project?

Yes, for the course code. MAEOH was the earlier MA in Environmental and Occupational Health, a 74-credit programme; MAENOH is the 80-credit version running since January 2025. Both use the same project course, written as MEVP 001, MEVP-001, MEVP001, MEVP 1 or MEVP-01. The only MEVP-001 handbook in circulation, the Handbook on Project Work on eGyanKosh (issue date 2022), was written for MAEOH and the old PG Diploma (PGDEOH). Its project rules are the ones in force; its programme-level details, such as credit totals, describe the older structure.

Do PG Diploma (PGDENOH) students also do MEVP 001?

Not under the July 2026 structure. PGDENOH, the current PG Diploma in Environmental and Occupational Health, lists ten theory courses of 4 credits each, 40 credits in all, with no project course. The older PGDEOH did include MEVP-001, which is why the handbook names both programmes and why the PGDEOH project hard copy section still exists for those learners. If you are in MAENOH and take the PG Diploma exit after the first year, you leave before reaching MEVP 001.

I hold the old PG Diploma and joined MAENOH Year 2. Do I repeat the project?

The prospectus admits holders of the earlier 32-credit PG Diploma into the second year on one condition: they complete all 40 credits of the second-year courses plus one additional 4-credit elective from the first year. MEVP 001 sits in that second-year list. If you already completed MEVP-001 under PGDEOH, ask your Regional Centre in writing whether that result is counted before you start a new proposal. Nothing in the documents we read settles this case, so do not assume either way.

Is MEVP 001 the same as MEVP 11, MEVP 012 or MEVP 033?

No. SOITS uses the MEVP prefix for several projects with different rules. MEVP 11 is the 8-credit dissertation/project of the M.Sc. Environmental Science (see the IGNOU MSCENV project page), MEVP 012 is the 6-credit project of MA Environmental Studies, MEVP 033 is the 8-credit project of M.Sc. Climate Change and MEVP 054 belongs to the PG Diploma in Waste Management. A sample, fee figure or marks breakdown written for any of these does not transfer to the 4-credit MAENOH project.

Who Can Guide an MAENOH Project, and Why Fix the Guide Before the Topic?

The July 2026 prospectus lists two routes for supervisors in this subject: faculty at IGNOU headquarters, Regional Centres or Study Centres; or teachers, faculty and researchers with a PhD and 2 years of experience, an M.Sc., MA, BE, B.Tech or M.Tech with 5 years, or an MD, MBBS or paramedical qualification with 2 years.

Two cautions about that list. First, the prospectus prints it under the PG Diploma (PGDENOH) entry, headed “Qualifications for Academic counsellors/Project Supervisors”; it is the current official statement for this subject area, but confirm it with your Regional Centre for MAENOH. Second, the MEVP-001 handbook adds its own route for academic counsellors (a PhD, M.Sc. or MA with 2 years of relevant experience) and names science disciplines such as botany, zoology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology and biotechnology. The Regional Centre judges whether your supervisor is acceptable. If it is not, the handbook says you change the supervisor and resubmit the proposal.

Why settle the guide first? Look at who MAENOH is written for. The prospectus names professionals in the environmental and occupational sector, NGO staff, doctors, nurses and paramedical employees, CPCB employees and civil servants. For most of them the guide and the data come from the same place: a hospital, a factory, a municipal office or a farm cooperative. A guide inside a hospital can open infection-control records; a guide in an industrial unit can open the accident register. Choose the guide, and you have already narrowed the topics you can evidence.

What does the guide bio-data need, and is it optional for academic counsellors?

It is never optional. The MEVP-001 proforma states that a proposal without the complete, signed bio-data of the supervisor will not be entertained, even if the supervisor is an academic counsellor of the programme. Use the bio-data format bound with your handbook, show the qualification and years of experience that match one of the routes above, and have the guide sign it in original.

MAENOH Project Topics You Can Evidence Without a Laboratory

An MAENOH project is judged on whether its evidence answers its objectives. The MEVP-001 handbook builds its method chapters around the case study and the survey, and its Annexure I lists sample topics such as a study on environmental toxicants. So pick a hazard you can study through people, records and observation, and keep instrument readings optional.

The matrix below is our editorial planning tool, not an IGNOU list. Each row links a hazard area to the MAENOH course that prepares you for it, the evidence an MA learner can usually collect, and the part that would need equipment or special permission. A topic that lives mostly in the third column is finishable in a 4-credit project; one that lives mostly in the fourth is not.

Can I compare two industries or two workplaces in MEVP 001?

Yes, provided the comparison stays small and uses one tool. Apply the same questionnaire or checklist to the same kind of worker in both settings, keep the samples comparable in size, and write objectives that name both settings. A comparison of two units in one district is finishable in 120 hours; a comparison across three states is not.

How do I turn a hazard into a project title?

Name the exposure, the group and the place, and choose a verb you can deliver. “Awareness and practice of biomedical waste segregation among nursing staff in a district hospital in Rohtak” is a title an evaluator can approve. “Impact of hospital waste on public health in India” promises causal evidence no MA survey can produce.

Ask Which MEVP 001 Set Fits Your Setting

What Goes Into the MEVP 001 Synopsis, and Where Does It Go?

The MEVP 001 synopsis, which the handbook calls the project proposal, must state the title, introduction, objectives, problem statement and research methodology, including the locale, sampling, instruments and statistical tools you will use. It goes to your own Regional Centre with the signed proforma and the supervisor’s signed bio-data.

The handbook describes one package for approval. Send it as a single set:

  • Proforma for Approval of Project Proposal (MEVP-001): your study centre and Regional Centre, the supervisor’s name and address, whether the supervisor is an academic counsellor (with the study centre name and code if yes), and the signatures of both of you.
  • One copy of the project proposal, signed by the supervisor.
  • The supervisor’s bio-data, complete and signed. Without it the proposal is not entertained.

On approval a Project Proposal number is allotted. Keep a photocopy of everything you send, because the approved proforma and the synopsis go back into your final report. The RC Bangalore project chart lists the Regional Centre as the office for MAEOH and PGDEOH proposals, which matches the handbook. The SED online project page also says a proposal can be forwarded to the concerned School or Regional Centre for approval.

How long should the MAENOH synopsis be?

The MEVP-001 handbook text we could read sets no page or word count for the proposal. Figures you see elsewhere, such as 8 to 12 pages or 1,200 words, come from other programmes. Write enough to cover the five required headings, and spend the most words on the methodology: where you will collect data, how many people or records, which tool, and which statistical test.

Do I send the synopsis to the Study Centre or to SOITS?

Some websites send MEVP 1 proposals to the Study Centre, and one even routes them to a tourism discipline at headquarters. The MEVP-001 handbook says proposals are submitted at your Regional Centre for approval. If your Regional Centre asks for an email copy, follow its notice, but do not change the address on your own.

How Big Is a 4-Credit MEVP 001 Report? Hours, Pages and Marks

MEVP 001 carries 4 credits, and IGNOU counts one credit as 30 hours of study, so the whole project is planned around about 120 hours. The handbook sets the report at about 40 to 50 double-spaced typed pages, not exceeding roughly 10,000 words, excluding appendices and exhibits.

The 120 hours and the page range are official; the split below is our suggestion for keeping a working professional on schedule. Adjust it to your topic, but notice where the hours go: data collection and analysis take half the budget, which is why a topic with easy data access matters more than an impressive title.

Which sections does the MEVP 001 report need?

The handbook says each project report must include the title, introduction, objectives, problem statement and research methodology, with the locale, sampling, instruments and statistical tools, and the list continues beyond these items. The first page shows the project title and your name and details as the handbook’s report format describes. Read the full list in your own copy of the handbook before you fix the chapter plan, because it is the document your evaluator follows.

How is the MEVP 001 project marked?

Out of 100: 70 percent for the project report and 30 percent for the viva-voce. The handbook asks for a minimum of 40 percent to complete the project. Its evaluation scheme sheet gives marks by section (methodology, for example, carries 10), but do not borrow the heading-wise split published for MEVP 11; that belongs to a different 8-credit course.

Are font, margins and citation style fixed?

Not in the MEVP-001 handbook text we could read. Double spacing and the page range are stated; rules such as a particular typeface, 1-inch margins or APA style, which some sites present as IGNOU requirements, are not. Ask your guide to pick one consistent style and keep to it.

Can I write the MAENOH project in Hindi?

The prospectus gives English as the medium of instruction for MAENOH, and the programme page says the same. Write the proposal and report in English unless your Regional Centre gives you written permission otherwise.

Is MEVP 001 a project or a dissertation?

Officially a project: the prospectus and programme page title the course “Project”, and the handbook calls it “Project Work”. Some sites use the word dissertation. The rules are the same whichever word you search with.

Submitting MEVP 001 Online, the Rs 300 Fee and the Viva

The MEVP 001 project evaluation fee is Rs 300. The July 2026 prospectus charges Rs 300 for project work up to 4 credits and Rs 500 above 4 credits, paid with the term-end examination form. Reports can be uploaded on the SED online project portal for each cycle, and the viva is held at your Regional Centre.

The Rs 500 figure seen on many project pages applies to larger courses such as MEVP 11; for MEVP 001 it is Rs 300, and it is non-refundable. When you upload, the SED online project guidelines require the approved proforma in original, the synopsis, the guide’s bio-data and the originality certificate signed and dated by both you and the guide, all scanned into a single PDF for the course. Incomplete uploads are not evaluated.

The portal and its last date change every cycle; for the June 2026 term-end examination the last date was 15 June 2026. For the December 2026 cycle, check the current notice on ignou.ac.in before you plan. If you submit a printed report, the RC Bangalore chart lists the Regional Centre for MAEOH reports, and a Project Report number is allotted that you quote in all later queries. Regional Centres schedule the viva. Printed sets and binding questions are handled on the IGNOU MAEOH project hard copy page.

MEVP 001 Project Reference Sets in This Category (PDF)

This category holds MEVP 001 reference material for IGNOU MAENOH learners as PDF soft copies: sample project proposals (synopses) and sample project reports on environmental and occupational health themes. Use a set to see how a hazard study is framed, how a questionnaire maps to objectives and how findings return to them.

Before you choose a set, check three things. The course code must be MEVP 001, not MEVP 11 or MEVP 012. The setting should resemble yours: a hospital study teaches little about a farm survey. And the method should be one you can repeat, usually a survey or a case study. A reference set shows structure and method; the work you submit must be your own, because you and your guide sign an originality certificate that says so.

These reference sets are produced by Shri Chakradhar Publication Pvt. Ltd., a Delhi publisher that has served IGNOU distance learners since 2010 with its own writing team and printing press. For the theory side of the programme, see the MAEOH books, the MAEOH solved assignments and the MAEOH solved guess papers.
