IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical in the BAFHSC fourth semester

Straight answer for BHCL-126

IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical is the 2-credit Early Childhood Care and Education practical in semester 4 of BAFHSC. You complete at least four of its eight exercises (1, 2 and 8, plus one of 3 to 7), hand the practical file to your Academic Counsellor, then sit a three-hour practical exam with a viva.

BHCL-126 runs beside BHCC-126, the 4-credit theory course of the same name, in the second year of the Bachelor of Arts (Home Science) under the Four Year Undergraduate Programme. The June 2026 handbook calls it Course 8 of the second year; it comes from the Disciplines of Home Science and Child Development in the School of Continuing Education (SOCE). Every core practical in the first six semesters of the programme, BHCL-121 to BHCL-130, carries 2 credits, and the BAFHSC practical you meet next to BHCL-126 in semester 4 is BHCL-125, the textiles practical.

The programme itself, as the July 2026 prospectus prints it: open to anyone with 10+2, offered in English and Hindi, admission in January and July, Rs 5,500 a year. The UG Diploma exit comes after year two, so BHCL-126 is one of the courses you clear before that step.

Across practical courses, learners who handle the theory papers calmly often find the practical half far more stressful. For BHCL-126 that half means field visits, an activity with a real child, a written file and a three-hour exam that ends in a viva.

Many learners tell us they spotted the practical half of a course only late in the session. The BAFHSC course list prints BHCL-126 as its own 2-credit code, separate from BHCC-126, so look for both codes on your semester 4 registration.

A worry we hear often: the handbook shows one format, a counsellor explains another, and an online sample shows a third. The BHCL-126 handbook itself says the report format changes from exercise to exercise and asks you to settle it with your Academic Counsellor before you begin.

Questions about the BHCL 126 practical manual

Seven questions about the BHCL-126 manual

Do I have to copy the sample activity in the handbook?

Students often ask us this. The BHCL-126 handbook prints filled samples for Exercises 3 to 8 (two for Exercise 3, one for each of the others), such as Jumping on Lines and a Colour Sorting Game, and for Exercises 4 to 8 it says you can plan similar activities of your own and lists more ideas for each age group.

The handbook says four exercises in one place and eight in another. Which is right?

Both lines sit in section 2.0. It opens by saying you will carry out “four practical exercises”, then lists eight exercises worth 5 marks each and asks for at least four. Annexure A and the counsellor’s instructions confirm it: eight exercises exist, four is the minimum, and the best four scores count.

Is there a Hindi BHCL 126 practical manual?

Yes. eGyanKosh lists a 2026 file named “BHCL 126 HINDI PRACTICAL MANUAL”, filed under the Hindi title of the course, with Hemlata Chand and Priyanka Suryavanshi as contributors. The English handbook read for this page is dated June 2026.

Is the early childhood care and education practical the same course as BHCC-126?

No. BHCC-126 is the 4-credit theory course and BHCL-126 is the 2-credit early childhood care and education practical; both sit in semester 4 and are listed separately. eGyanKosh files the Hindi practical handbook under a BHCC-126 heading, so check the code on any file you download.

Does BHCL-126 have a solved assignment?

The IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical handbook sets no tutor-marked assignment: its 30 internal marks come from attendance and the best four exercises. At least one website lists BHCL-126 beside theory codes in a solved assignment table, but the handbook gives no assignment to solve.

Exercise 8 cites “Units 7, 8 and 10 of BHCL-126”. Which units are those?

The practical handbook has no units of its own, and Exercises 3 to 7 cite units of the theory course BHCC-126. Ask your counsellor which theory units the Exercise 8 line means before you plan your theme week.

Can the file go to the Regional Centre or by email?

Learners often ask us whether a file belongs at the study centre, the Regional Centre or IGNOU headquarters, and a few try email. The BHCL-126 handbook names one route: the practical file goes to your Academic Counsellor at your Learner Support Centre, who evaluates it and records the internal marks.

The three-hour IGNOU practical exam, viva and Rs 300 fee

The term-end exam of the IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical is held separately from the theory paper, lasts three hours and is conducted in study centres by the Regional Centres. The IGNOU practical exam paper for this course is set by the programme coordinators at IGNOU headquarters and is the same for every learner. On the day you collect the exercise material, conduct the practical and report your findings in the answer sheet, which goes to the internal examiner. The viva follows, taken by the internal examiner together with the external examiner or course coordinator. Bring your practicum notebook. The handbook adds that the viva can also be held online, without making clear when, so confirm the mode with your study centre.

The handbook prints no fee. Under the July 2026 prospectus rule for practical examinations, a course of up to 4 credits carries Rs 300, so the 2-credit BHCL-126 falls in that slab. The fee goes with the Term-End Examination form and is not refundable. For practical marks, the prospectus gives practicalsed@ignou.ac.in and 011-29572212 for all programmes.

Many students cannot say whether a viva applies to them. For BHCL-126 the handbook answers it: yes, straight after the written answer sheet, inside the term-end practical exam.

Learners often treat the viva as a formality, then struggle to explain their own aim, method or findings. In BHCL-126 the viva is a separate part of the external assessment, and those who ran their own activities talk about them with the most confidence.

Many learners mix up the Rs 300 and Rs 500 practical fees. BHCL-126 carries 2 credits, which places it in the up-to-4-credit slab of Rs 300.

BHCC-126 reading behind the IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical viva

Theory guide for the BHCL-126 viva

The shelf for the IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical is theory reading. Exercises 3 to 7 cite BHCC-126 units and the viva asks you to explain work that rests on that theory, so the product that helps is the BHCC-126 study guide: it covers the four blocks of the theory course with unit-wise notes, solved questions and previous-paper practice, and was in stock at Rs 149 when this page was built.

BHCC-126 study guide

Guides for the other BAFHSC theory courses sit on the IGNOU Home Science books shelf. No BHCL-126 practical file or filled exercise format is stocked or offered here.

Three causes come up again and again across practicals: information arrives late and differs by centre, the work assumes time and travel that working learners rarely have, and the file is treated as formatting when it is meant to show applied learning. BHCL-126 carries the same three: counsellor-set formats, visits on several days, and reflections that ask what you understood.

In our experience, learners who do well in practicals begin early and keep their own record. For BHCL-126 that means confirming the format with your own Learner Support Centre, putting a date on each visit, collecting the counsellor’s signature as you go, and being able to explain each exercise in your own words.

Why your IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical file has to be your own

An IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical file is built from two real children in a park, one real centre and at least one child in your own neighbourhood, so nothing in it can be borrowed from someone else’s week. The handbook asks you to record observations honestly. The term-end exam then has you conduct a practical on the day, and the viva is taken by an internal and an external examiner. shrichakradhar.com does not sell BHCL-126 files, records or filled formats.

Ready-made practical files circulate online, and some learners hand one in after swapping just the name and the enrolment number. Several identical BHCL-126 files from one Learner Support Centre stand out quickly, and the viva then asks you to explain a child and a centre you did not see.

Some learners paste in an AI-written reflection unchanged, which is one reason the same content keeps appearing across files. A BHCL-126 reflection asks what you noticed about your child, your centre or your theme week, and a tool that was not there cannot answer that.

We have seen write-ups built on assumed data rather than real observation. BHCL-126 asks what two real children did in a real playground, and the counsellor assesses data interpretation and the quality of reflections, which assumed entries cannot support.

Writing up the BHCL 126 practical file

The BHCL 126 practical file is what the IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical handbook asks you to submit once the exercises are done, and every exercise inside it follows the three parts set out in Box 1 of the handbook. Part I introduces the activity: title, considerations, materials, procedure and the sample. Part II holds the observation or implementation tables. Part III is your reflection and conclusion.

Use the report format printed with each exercise and answer every question it asks. The counsellor’s instructions mention charts, tables or graphs where they help present findings. The handbook sets no language rule for the file; BAFHSC is offered in English and Hindi, and a Hindi edition of the handbook is listed on eGyanKosh.

Practical write-ups usually follow a fixed order, and a missing part pulls the whole exercise down. In BHCL-126 the order is the handbook’s Part I, Part II and Part III for each exercise, so a write-up that jumps from the activity straight to the reflection drops the tables the counsellor reads.

Some write-ups we see run far past the length a course sets and get sent back. BHCL-126 does set lengths: 8 to 10 lines of reflection for Exercises 1 and 4 to 8, and 10 to 12 lines for Exercise 2.

Learners from Hindi-medium schooling often find technical writing in English hard, while English-medium learners who write in Hindi miss the terms. For BHCL-126 the programme runs in English and Hindi, so reading each exercise in the language you will write in is possible.

Eight exercises, four that count

The IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical handbook lists eight exercises and asks for at least four. Exercises 1, 2 and 8 are compulsory, and you pick any one of Exercises 3 to 7. You may attempt all eight: the counsellor is told to evaluate every exercise handed in, and the best four scores are the ones counted.

In our records, 70 to 80 percent of the learners we deal with get moving only in the final month before work falls due. The BHCL-126 handbook prints no last date for the practical file, so ask your Academic Counsellor for the date by which the file is due; four exercises spread over several visits are hard to rush.

Learners sometimes follow a friend from another study centre and then find their own centre works differently. For BHCL-126 the handbook fixes the exercise choice, and the format and schedule are settled with the Academic Counsellor at your own Learner Support Centre.

Practical classes usually run on fixed dates, and the schedule is posted on the websites of the Regional Centre or the study centre. BHCL-126 exercises run under your Academic Counsellor at your Learner Support Centre, and the prospectus says that centre provides the practical schedule, so check its notices through the session.

Exercises 1 and 2: a playground, then an Anganwadi

Exercise 1 of the IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical asks for naturalistic observation. You visit a park or playground on three days and watch two children aged about 3 to 6, for about 20 to 30 minutes, without joining or interrupting their play. The observation schedule has six blocks: gross motor activities, fine motor activities, types of play (solitary, parallel, associative, cooperative, games with rules, pretend play), social interaction, emotional behaviour, and language during play. Children’s names and personal details stay out of the record. The reflection runs 8 to 10 lines.

Exercise 2 takes you to an Anganwadi, an ECCE centre or a primary school on 2 to 3 days, or for one detailed visit if several are not possible. Ask the Anganwadi Worker for permission, then use both structured and naturalistic observation across five areas: the preschool session, supplementary nutrition, growth monitoring, health and immunization support, and the worker’s own roles. The worker appears in your notes only as a name code. A phone may record time; photographs need permission. The interview of 5 to 6 questions is optional, and it becomes your route when the session itself cannot be watched. This reflection is longer, 10 to 12 lines.

Neither exercise has a filled sample page in the June 2026 handbook. The samples start at Exercise 3.

Many organisations are slow to make room for distance learners, and some give them little to do. The BHCL-126 handbook expects this at the Anganwadi: if the worker is busy, it suggests asking for a convenient time or a short talk after the session, and if observation is not possible, a brief interview or another day.

A log written in one evening at the end gives itself away through repeated lines, dates that land on holidays and no change from the first visit to the last. Exercise 1 of BHCL-126 spreads over three days at the park, so give each visit its own date and time on the schedule.

Exercises 3 to 7: one child, one domain, one activity

Each of Exercises 3 to 7 in the IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical follows the same pattern for a different domain of development. Find a child from birth to 3 years or 3 to 6 years in your neighbourhood (a sibling, or a neighbour’s or relative’s child), tell the parent or caregiver it is for your IGNOU practical, and take permission. Watch briefly what the child can already do, then plan and run one simple, playful activity with materials that are safe for that age.

The write-up for these exercises opens with basic information (age of the child, setting, date) and then has four parts: the activity planned (name, age group, objective, materials), a step-by-step description (a nine-step table in Exercises 4 to 7, ruled lines in Exercise 3), three answers on why the activity is developmentally appropriate, and the child’s response under interest, participation, skills used, difficulty and enjoyment. Exercise 3 cites Units 5 and 12 of BHCC-126, Exercise 4 cites Unit 5, Exercise 5 Units 5 and 14, Exercise 6 Units 5 and 15, and Exercise 7 Unit 16. Doing one is the minimum; doing more gives the best-four rule more to choose from.

Entries that only describe (“played with the child in the courtyard”) are a weak point we meet across practicals, because evaluators look for the link to an idea from the course. In BHCL-126 that link has a fixed place: the table on why the activity is developmentally appropriate, answered with the BHCC-126 unit the exercise names.

The written part is where practical marks slip most easily, and it is also the part a learner can repair fastest. For BHCL-126, the handbook’s checklist for counsellors names accuracy, hygiene, data interpretation and the quality of reflections.

Activity ideas lifted from the internet and handed in without a check turn up in many files we see. The BHCL-126 handbook already lists further ideas for both age groups under Exercises 4 to 7, and shaping one around the child you actually met is closer to what it asks.

What goes into the Exercise 8 five-day plan?

Exercise 8 is compulsory and is a planning task. Choose one age group (birth to 3 or 3 to 6), choose one theme, and plan five working days, Monday to Friday, in table form, with play, story, movement and art across different domains each day and low-cost local materials. The handbook’s sample uses the theme Fruits for 3 to 6 year olds. Its other suggestions are My Body, Colours, Family, Toys, Sounds Around Me and Water Play for the younger group, and Animals, Community Helpers, Seasons, Transport and Plants for the older one.

Columns the Exercise 8 plan uses

Column in the weekly planMonday in the handbook’s Fruits sample
Circle TimeTalk on favourite fruits
Main ActivityFruit naming game
Outdoor / MovementRun and collect fruit cards
Creative ActivityColour apple picture
Story / ClosureStory on Mango

The observation table in Exercise 8 is headed “If implemented”, so running the week with children is optional in the handbook’s wording. The plan, the three answers on developmental appropriateness and the reflection are not optional.

Once the activity is over, many learners ask us what shape the write-up should take. For Exercise 8 of BHCL-126 the handbook prints its own Student Activity Format: basic information, the weekly plan table, the three appropriateness questions and the optional observation, followed by the Part III reflection.

Counsellor 30, examiners 70: how BHCL-126 is marked

BHCL-126 carries 100 marks. Your Academic Counsellor gives the internal 30 in Annexure A, and the term-end practical exam gives the external 70 in Annexure B. The handbook prints no separate passing mark for BHCL-126, so none is quoted here.

Annexure A and Annexure B side by side

Internal, Academic Counsellor (Annexure A)Best four exercises at 5 each20
External, term-end practical exam (Annexure B)Conducting the practical and the written answer sheet50
External, term-end practical exam (Annexure B)Viva voce20

Most learners who reach us are working, running a home, or both, and missed practical sessions are where whole sessions get lost; people who skip them are often kept out of the practical exam. BHCL-126 gives attendance its own share of the internal marks, and the prospectus states that attendance at practical sessions is compulsory.

Practical marks tend to show up on the grade card after the theory results. BHCL-126 is a semester 4 course, so for BAFHSC learners planning the UG Diploma exit after year two, a late practical mark can keep that step waiting.

A learner without a receipt has no proof to offer if marks later go missing. When you hand over the BHCL-126 file, ask the counsellor for a dated acknowledgement and keep a copy of the file.

Handing the file to your Academic Counsellor

When the IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical exercises are complete, the handbook asks you to submit the practical file to your Academic Counsellor for evaluation, make any corrections the counsellor suggests, and resubmit. The counsellor marks each exercise out of 5, ticks the best four and adds attendance.

The appendix carries a certificate with your signature, name, enrolment number, Learner Support Centre and Regional Centre, and the counsellor’s signature, name and designation, each side with place and date. One slip to know about: the certificate in the June 2026 handbook says the work was done in “BHCL-126 Practicals in Fundamentals of Foods and Nutrition”. That title matches the first-year practical BHCL-122, so ask your counsellor how to word it on your copy.

An unsigned counsellor certificate is a gap we keep finding in practical files. The BHCL-126 certificate needs two signatures, yours and the Academic Counsellor’s, each with a date.

Wrong enrolment numbers and centre details on the first page are another repeat problem. The BHCL-126 certificate asks for the name of your Learner Support Centre and your Regional Centre as well as the enrolment number, so copy them from your IGNOU identity card and admission records.

Comments from the person checking the work often go unattended when it comes back. The BHCL-126 handbook builds this step in: make the corrections your Academic Counsellor suggests and resubmit.

The order that works for the IGNOU BHCL 126 Practical is short: settle formats with your counsellor, do Exercises 1, 2 and 8 plus one more with real children, get the certificate signed, then revise BHCC-126 for the viva. If you move on to the project stage of the programme later, our BAFHSC project and dissertation guide covers it.
