What Is the IGNOU MSCENV Project and Dissertation (MEVP 11)?

The IGNOU MSCENV project and the MSCENV dissertation are the same course: MEVP 11 Dissertation/Project, a compulsory 8-credit course in Semester IV of the M.Sc. Environmental Science. You carry out one study under an approved supervisor, write a dissertation report of about 7,000 to 8,000 words, and face a viva-voce marked with it out of 100.

The code appears in four spellings, MEVP 11, MEVP-011, MEVP 011 and MEVP11, and all four mean the same MSCENV project course. The IGNOU Common Prospectus for July 2026 (section 3.38) lists it in Semester IV alongside two elective courses, and the School of Interdisciplinary and Trans-disciplinary Studies (SOITS) has published a separate MEVP-011 Handbook on Project Work that sets out how the proposal, the report and the evaluation work. Every rule quoted on this page comes from one of those two documents unless the page says otherwise.

MSCENV project or MSCENV dissertation: is there any difference?

No. The two words name one course with one set of rules. The Common Prospectus prints the course title as “MEVP 11 Dissertation/Project”, and IGNOU’s public statements on the programme describe it as an 8-credit dissertation/project in the fourth semester. The MEVP-011 handbook uses only the word “project” throughout, from the proposal to the evaluation sheet. So the MSCENV dissertation, the MEVP 11 dissertation and the MSCENV project all lead to the same proposal, the same report, the same 100-mark scheme and the same submission route. On the examination form and on your report, use the code MEVP 11 (MEVP-011), because the code, not the word, identifies the course.

A little programme context helps when you plan. MSCENV is a 72-credit, English-medium programme of 2 to 4 years, open to graduates in science, engineering, agricultural science, forestry or veterinary science, with a printed fee of Rs 8,700 per year. MEV 19 Research Methodology for Environmental Science sits in Semester III, the term before MEVP 11, and it is the course your MEVP 11 proposal will lean on most. The programme coordinators named in the prospectus are Prof. Shachi Shah ([email protected]), Dr. V. Venkat Ramanan ([email protected]) and Dr. Deeksha Dave ([email protected]).

MEVP 11 Project PDF: Do You Need the Handbook, a Synopsis Sample or a Dissertation Sample?

“MEVP 11 project PDF” can mean three different files. The official MEVP-011 handbook is free from IGNOU on eGyanKosh. A sample synopsis shows how a 1,500-word proposal is laid out, and a sample dissertation report shows a finished study. This category holds the two samples as PDF reference sets.

Start with the handbook, because it is the rulebook and it is short: sixteen pages, with the proposal proforma (Annexure I), the certificate of originality (Annexure II), the supervisor’s remuneration bill (Annexure III) and the evaluation scheme (Annexure IV). You can read it on eGyanKosh, IGNOU’s digital repository.

A reference set answers a different question: what does a complete MEVP 11 synopsis or dissertation look like on the page? Use it to see how a title is narrowed to one place, how objectives are worded, how a sampling plan is described and how tables carry the results chapter. Do not submit it. The handbook states that each learner must do the project individually and independently and that completely identical proposals or reports will be rejected, so your proposal and report must be built on your own site, data and supervisor.

Prefer paper? The same kind of material is available as printed sets in the IGNOU MSCENV project hard copy category, which also covers binding, the CD and posting the report to IGNOU. These reference sets are prepared by Shri Chakradhar Publication Pvt. Ltd., a New Delhi publisher that has served IGNOU distance learners since 2010 with its own team of writers and its own printing press.

How Is the MEVP 11 Dissertation Marked? The 100-Mark Scheme, Chapter by Chapter

The MEVP 11 dissertation is marked out of 100: 70 for the project report and 30 for the viva-voce. Inside the report, results and discussion alone carry 30 marks. You must score at least 40 percent in the report and 40 percent in the viva separately, which means 28 of 70 and 12 of 30, as well as 40 overall.

The handbook gives two lists that do not line up neatly. Section 4.1 lists the parts a report must contain. Annexure IV, the evaluation sheet signed by the external examiner, lists what earns marks. Reading them side by side is the fastest way to see where an MEVP 11 report wins or loses marks.

Two practical lessons follow. First, the literature review is worth as much as the methodology, yet it is missing from the contents list that most students copy, so a report built only on that list can leave 10 marks on the table. Second, 60 of the 100 marks sit in two places: the results and discussion chapter and the viva. If you are deciding where to spend your 7,000 to 8,000 words, the results and discussion chapter deserves the largest share, and every table in it should be something you can explain aloud.

MEVP 11 dissertation format: what the handbook fixes, and what it leaves open

The handbook fixes these points for the MEVP 11 dissertation report: about 7,000 to 8,000 words; A-4 paper with double line spacing; every page, table and figure numbered in sequence, with a title on each table and figure; the original approved proposal proforma and a certificate of originality signed by you and your supervisor attached; a project title identical to the approved proposal; a supervisor signature on the certificate that matches the one on the proforma; and any relevant data, device or object that supports your conclusions attached to the report. A report received without the approved proforma and the certificate is rejected.

It does not fix a font, a font size, margins, a citation style, a page count or an abstract. Pages that tell MSCENV students to use Times New Roman, one-inch margins, APA referencing or a 10,000-word report are not quoting the MEVP-011 handbook. Pick one readable font and one referencing style, then apply them consistently.

What Happens at the MEVP 11 Viva-Voce?

Every MEVP 11 student has a viva-voce. It carries 30 of the 100 marks, and you need at least 12 of those 30 to pass the project. The handbook describes a face-to-face viva conducted by the project evaluator at your Programme Study Centre, in the presence of the centre coordinator, to judge your subject knowledge and communication.

The viva is not reserved for shortlisted students, whatever some older pages say. It is a fixed component of the 100-mark scheme. The handbook adds three instructions: the coordinator of your Programme Study Centre or Study Centre will tell you the date, you must bring a copy of your project report, and you should keep a photocopy of the submitted report because you may have to produce it before the examiner.

Where and how the viva happens now depends on your Regional Centre. The handbook says a viva by phone, e-mail or teleconference is not allowed, but IGNOU’s own notices show the arrangement changing by cycle: the Ranchi Regional Centre published an online viva-voce schedule for MEVP-011 for the June 2023 term-end cycle and a viva-voce schedule for MSCENV (MEVP-011) for June 2024, and the June 2026 SED project portal says vivas are conducted by the concerned faculties under the Regional Centre. Watch your own Regional Centre’s website after you submit.

Prepare for the questions the marks scheme points to. Be ready to say why you chose your site and sample, how each instrument or questionnaire was used, what every table in the results chapter shows, and how each conclusion answers one of your objectives.

Quick Answers on the IGNOU MSCENV Project

Is the MEVP 11 dissertation a 4-credit or an 8-credit course?

MEVP 11 carries 8 credits. Both the July 2026 Common Prospectus and the MEVP-011 handbook say so. Some websites call it a four-credit project, which is wrong, and the credit figure matters because it decides the project evaluation fee.

Is MEVP 11 compulsory, and in which semester is it done?

Yes. The handbook calls the project a compulsory component of the programme, and the prospectus places MEVP 11 in Semester IV of the second year, with two elective courses beside it. You can still choose a supervisor and draft a proposal earlier, because the handbook allows both at any time of the year.

Is MEVP 11 the same as MEVP 001, MEVP 012 or MEVP 033?

No. They share a prefix but belong to different programmes: MEVP 001 is the project in the MA Environmental and Occupational Health, MEVP 012 is the 6-credit project of the MA Environmental Studies (MAEVS), MEVP 033 is the 8-credit project of the M.Sc. Climate Change, and MEVP 054 belongs to the PG Diploma in Waste Management. The MEVP-011 handbook governs MEVP 11 only. MEVP 001 learners can see the IGNOU MAEOH project hard copy category.

Can I write the MSCENV dissertation in Hindi?

The prospectus lists English as the medium of instruction for MSCENV, and the MEVP-011 handbook offers no Hindi option for the proposal or the report. If you want to write in Hindi, ask the programme coordinators in writing before you start.

Can two students submit a joint MEVP 11 project?

No. The handbook requires each learner to do the project individually and independently and rejects completely identical proposals or reports. Two students may work in the same town, but each needs a separate topic, data set, proposal and report.

What happens if I fail MEVP 11?

The handbook asks a failed student to repeat the whole cycle from a fresh proposal, preferably on a new topic, in the normal submission slots. It mentions a pro-rata fee of Rs 1,200 by demand draft, a rule that predates the January 2023 project fee change, so confirm the current procedure with the Student Evaluation Division before paying anything.

Can I change my MEVP 11 topic or guide after approval?

The report must carry exactly the title of the approved proposal, so a new title means a new proposal. A change of supervisor also counts as a new proposal, filed on a fresh proforma signed by the new supervisor.

MSCENV theory courses have their own help material: see the IGNOU MSCENV solved assignments and the IGNOU MSCENV books.

MEVP 11 Project and Dissertation Submission: Last Date, Online Upload and the Rs 500 Fee

The MEVP-011 handbook prints two submission slots, 1 July to 30 September and 1 January to 31 March. In recent cycles IGNOU’s Student Evaluation Division has announced its own last date for each term-end cycle instead, such as 15 June 2026 for the June 2026 cycle, so the notified date for your cycle is the one that counts.

Three calendars get mixed up on the MEVP 11 project, and most errors online come from that mix. Keep them apart.

The handbook’s two submission slots

The handbook schedule sends the report to the Registrar, Student Evaluation Division (SED), in one of two slots, 1 July to 30 September or 1 January to 31 March, with the viva in January for the first slot and in July for the second. An approved proposal stays valid for one year, which the handbook counts as two slots.

What SED has actually notified in recent cycles

IGNOU now runs online submission of final project and dissertation reports cycle by cycle. The SED online project portal for the June 2026 term-end cycle set 15 June 2026 as its last date, and the December 2025 cycle portal was reported to close on 30 November 2025. When this page was reviewed on 4 October 2026, the December 2026 project portal notice had not yet appeared, so check the IGNOU website before you plan around any date. The 31 May and 30 November dates that some pages quote as MEVP 11 deadlines come from other programmes’ result windows, not from the MEVP-011 handbook.

The June 2026 portal rules apply to MEVP 11 uploads as well: scan the whole report into a single PDF for the course; put your title, name, programme code, enrolment number, Regional Centre code, course code, mobile number and e-mail on the first page; include the approved proforma, the synopsis, your guide’s bio-data and the originality certificate signed and dated by you and your guide; and do not upload the synopsis on its own or send the report by e-mail. Incomplete uploads are not evaluated and are removed after the last date.

The Rs 500 project fee and the examination form

Since the January 2023 admission cycle, IGNOU charges a project evaluation fee of Rs 500 for projects above 4 credits, so Rs 500 applies to the 8-credit MEVP 11. You pay it with the term-end examination form, it is not refundable, and the SED portal asks for a copy of the fee receipt with the report. If the fee is not paid with the examination form, the report is not considered for evaluation. For the December 2026 cycle, news reports say the examination form deadline was extended to 7 October 2026, with a late-fee window to 15 October 2026; confirm on ignou.ac.in and add MEVP 11 to the form if you plan to submit this cycle.

Posting a printed report instead? The bound copy, the CD with the PDF, the envelope wording and the posting address are covered on the MSCENV project hard copy page.

Who Can Be Your MSCENV Project or Dissertation Guide (Supervisor)?

The MEVP-011 handbook allows three kinds of supervisor: an IGNOU academic counsellor for MSCENV with relevant experience, a teacher or researcher in environmental science or a related discipline with the stated experience, or a SOITS faculty member at IGNOU headquarters. You can find one yourself or with your study centre coordinator’s help.

MSCENV project supervisor eligibility, MEVP-011 handbook section 3.3
RouteWho qualifies under the handbookWhat to enclose with the proposal
1. Academic counsellorAn IGNOU academic counsellor at a Learner Support Centre for M.Sc. Environmental Science, with relevant experienceSigned bio-data, plus the courses counselled, since when, and the name and code of the study centre
2. Teacher or researcherPhD in environmental science, environmental studies or a related discipline with 2 years of teaching or research experience, or an M.Sc. in those fields with 5 years of teaching or research experienceComplete signed bio-data
3. SOITS facultyA faculty member of the School of Interdisciplinary and Trans-disciplinary Studies, IGNOU headquartersComplete signed bio-data

Bio-data is not optional for anyone. The proforma warns that a proposal without the supervisor’s complete, signed bio-data will not be entertained, even when the supervisor is an MSCENV counsellor. If SOITS does not accept your proposed supervisor, you must change the supervisor and resubmit, and the resubmission is treated as a new proposal.

Do not pay your supervisor. The handbook says learners must pay no fee or remuneration to the project supervisor, because IGNOU pays it: Annexure III fixes the guidance remuneration at Rs 300 per student, claimed by the supervisor with or after your report. That Rs 300 is IGNOU’s payment to your guide and has nothing to do with the Rs 500 evaluation fee you pay with the examination form. Your supervisor is also the person who can issue a letter of authorisation for data collection; the study centre or Regional Centre can issue one too.

How to Write the MEVP 11 Synopsis (Project Proposal)

The MEVP 11 synopsis, which the handbook calls the project proposal, should be about 1,500 words. It must cover five things: the title, the introduction and objectives, the methodology and tools, the utility or scope of the work, and future directions for investigating the problem. It goes with the signed proforma and your supervisor’s bio-data.

What goes into the 1,500-word MEVP 11 proposal

The five headings above are the handbook’s own list, and they are shorter than many templates online, which add sections such as a budget or a separate problem statement that the handbook never asks for. Two additions are worth making on our advice rather than the handbook’s rule. Under the introduction, add a short paragraph on work already done in your area, because the evaluation sheet later gives the literature review 10 marks. Under methodology, add a simple timeline, because section 5.1 lists project planning among the points an evaluator checks.

Where the proposal goes, and who approves it

Send the proposal, the proforma signed by you and your supervisor, and the supervisor’s bio-data to the Coordinator of your Programme Study Centre or Study Centre. The handbook allows this at any time of the year. Fill every entry on the proforma, because an incomplete proforma is not accepted, and keep a photocopy of the whole set. The coordinator communicates approval or non-approval within a month. If the proposal is not approved, you receive suggestions and resubmit a revised proposal with a new proforma and a copy of the earlier proforma that was not approved.

Is your approved MEVP 11 proposal still valid?

An approved proposal is valid for one year, or two submission slots. After that you must obtain fresh approval. The table applies the handbook’s printed calendar to the month of approval.

IGNOU MSCENV Project and Dissertation Topics: Choosing One the Handbook Rewards

The MEVP-011 handbook asks for a project with direct relevance to your day-to-day activities, and the evaluator scores topic selection on relevance to the real world. In practice, a strong MSCENV topic names one place you can reach repeatedly, one problem you can measure or survey there, and evidence you can attach to the report.

That last point is easy to miss. The handbook asks you to attach any relevant data, device or object that supports your conclusions, so choose a topic whose evidence you can actually hand in: sampling sheets and laboratory results, a blank questionnaire and its tally, dated photographs, or the tables of a secondary data set with their source. A broad title such as “Environmental degradation in India: an analytical study” has no place and no evidence trail. Fixing it to one district, one water body or one ward usually solves both problems.

The dissertation title shapes below are examples written for this page, each tied to an MSCENV course so that your course material doubles as your literature base:

  • MEV 15 Environmental Pollution, Control and Management: Seasonal variation in the physico-chemical quality of [named pond or lake], [town], before and after the monsoon.
  • MEV 14 Sustainable Natural Resource Management: Groundwater use and recharge practices among farming households of [village], [block].
  • MEV 16 Environmental Impact Assessment: Field observations at [named project site] compared with the commitments in its published environmental impact assessment report.
  • MEV 18 Environmental Health and Ecotoxicology: Self-reported respiratory complaints among brick kiln workers in [district].
  • MEVE 14 Biodiversity Conservation and Management: Tree species diversity in [named park or campus] using quadrat sampling.
  • MEVE 15 Disaster Management: Household flood preparedness in [ward or village] after the [year] floods.
  • MEVE 16 Urban Environment: Daytime noise levels at five traffic junctions in [city] compared with the ambient noise standards.
  • MEVE 11 Global Climate Change: Heat stress and changes in working hours among street vendors in [city] during May and June.

Do you need permission for MSCENV project fieldwork?

If your data come from a factory, a school, a hospital, a government office or private land, ask before you collect anything. The handbook makes this part of the supervisor’s role: your supervisor can give you a letter of authorisation to help with data collection, and the study centre or Regional Centre can issue one as well. Keep a copy of every letter and permission you receive, since they belong in your appendices.
